Pittsburgh - New Beers & Local Breweries

Shadyside Market District had it a couple days ago.

 

Shadyside GE tweeted yesterday that they have it.

 

Sorry...got smacked with a nasty head cold that I'm still trying to recover from...didn't want my review to be skewed because of it...I am trying to make Stigs proud after all..

 

I think you'll see it starting to show up on draft in the next week or two.

 

The only things required to review beers are an ego and spell-check.

 

I just saw that Draai Laag is opening their Biergarten on July 9. Will there be anything special or new on draft or in bottles?@stinkypuss

 

Can I use a thesaurus? I was also going to refer to my yinzer map for analogies...

 

If you drew a version of this but with breweries as landmarks, I would frame it.

 

I asked about it on Friday and it didn't seem that they were doing any special tappings/bottle releases. It was more about going to enjoy the outdoor space. This could change (fingers crossed that they put the briars on)

 

I thought they said that all of the Briars were kicked until toward the end of the year. Could be wrong, though.

 

Just ran out to Wicked Fox for the Bourbon County stuff. 10$ a piece, but there's 20% discount if you get it in a six pack or something. She said they have about 15 left of each and there will be no bottle limit until it gets a little lower. Seems like a nice place. Had I have had more time today would have stuck around and had some lunch, but was in a hurry.

 

They said that they always sit on some bottles and kegs for special occasions, but of what....

The reason I asked about it was my thought that they don't age their beer long enough. And I had a frank talk with them about it. The Cru 1year aged is delicious. The Briars seem rushed and I don't feel like they have fully matured when released. They were very receptive and it was a good experience.

 

Two new operations in the greater vicinity just came onto my radar - Dommy's Pizza in Vandergrift seems to have someone brewing in-house for them under the name DD (Double D) Brewing. And Levity Brewing in Indiana. Anyone have any leads on these (beyond what's on their websites)?

 

With boob-themed names, apparently. Classy.

 

Dommy's is my main source for beer! Unfortunately, I cannot speak to what the Double D beer is like because I haven't had any yet. It seems like I miss it being on tap by a day or two every time. Within the past month they have put a Scotch Ale, a Hefeweizen, and a Mosiac IPA on tap so it seems like they've been on a solid streak of having at least one of their beers on tap lately. Dommy's updates their Facebook with new beers to the coolers and whats on tap just about every Wednesday for those looking to try some.

It's interesting. After the old thread was locked down yesterday, I shared that fact on the couple FB beer groups I belong to. Seems a lot of lurkers came out of the woodwork there.

 

I actually came out of the lurking closet during the demise of the last thread. But it got mixed up and lost in all of that garbage.
