Hey all. I'm heading to Pittsburgh to stay with my brother who lives about 20ish minutes from the Robinson Giant Eagle. I'm curious if it's worth a trip over that way for me (given it'd only be a beer trip and a busy family schedule). Anyone have any ideas of some things on the shelves there now that would be worth me running out there? I live in northern VA so looking for things that wouldn't be something I'd stumble across here. No real style preference for this trip... just good beer.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Side note: I used to live in Pittsburgh and know there are better places to go for beer. I might make it to D's but I'm not making that long of a trip. The other places I'll have to run into if I happen to be in the area for another reason.

As a Pittsburgh native who lived in NoVa for a while, I don't think you'll find anything there that you won't find at home. However, you never know anymore. Worth a shot! The Market Districts usually have a solid selection with good prices.

I haven't been to the one in robinson, but the one in Monroeville has some solid beers. I picked up some dragon's milk a few weeks ago. It does have some local breweries like church brew works, and just started carrying river town cans. The also had things like troegs, and erie brewing. I don't think you will find anything amazing, but you might come across something not available in dc.

Look for Helltown's Devious (Belgian pale ale) in large bottles from Mount Pleasant. I found some in GE-Irwin, the first time I'd seen any of their stuff bottled. Other locals besides Church and Rivertowne would be Full Pint, Draai Laag and FatHead's.

I doubt you'll find Draai Laag in any Giant Eagles, as they're still self-distributing.

I've mostly seen it at 99 bottles in Carnegie (not far from the GE-Robinsons) and other shops like that, but I could have sworn GE-Irwin had Simon Girty last time I was in. And doesn't Rivertowne also self-distribute? I know I've seen their trucks with the Export location on the cab, and they are prominently featured in Giant Eagle-Monroeville with posters and end-cap displays.

What about Head Hunter? OP should definitely be stalking some of that if he is in the 'burgh

its usually a bit pricey, but if your in the robinson area bocktown might be worth a stop. havent been there recently so not sure about any hard to find stuff they might have.

Rivertowne's distributed by Wilson-McGinley. Not saying it's impossible that Draai Laag would show up in a GE, but I'd be very surprised their limited "supply" for self-distribution, & (I'm only guessing here) GE's limited "demand" to stock a self-distributing brewery. I could be totally wrong here, though.

They usually carry rochefort 6,8 and 10 at GE robinson. For 6.99 the rochefort 10 is half of what they charge at sharp edge.

I've see it on tap at GE Robinson. Not in bottles though.

I think Robinson has a great sixer selection for what it is: a grocery store IN Pittsburgh

If you're looking for cases of beer, Buddy's Brews on Carson is an awesome beer store and the guys running it are great. (It's relatively new so I wasnt sure if you had been there yet)
