Have a wedding this coming weekend and staying at the Wyndham University Center for a few days. Looking for a place with a decent tap list within walking distance from the hotel for when I need to escape the in-laws. Any suggestions?

A quick uber ride down to fatheads or pipers pub is the right move. In walking distance though, mad mex or fuel and fuddle is your best bet I guess.

Butterjoint on Craig St. has a decent list a couple blocks from the Wyndham. Definitely get a burger if you go.

Uber to Independent Brewing Company would be worth it too. No, they're not a brewery but they exclusively carry local brews.

Mad Mex. But yes, go there.

I would skip Mad Mex unless that is the only reasonable place to walk to. There's nothing really wrong with it if you are stuck in the burbs with bad food like me, but the food is average at best and the draft list is not great. There are so many better places in the city for food and beer. I would uber/taxi to a few places mentioned above.

I don't know which Mad Mex you're stuck by, but I love the Oakland location. Shadyside too. They always have an above average draft list, the food is killer, and their sangria and big azz margs aren't bad either.

Be sure to tell everyone to Eat Shit. They love that.

Disclaimer: I'm a Texas transplant so anything remotely close to Mexican food up here sucks to me. Regardless of that, I still don't think it's a destination place where I would advise an out-of-towner to go to where there are better options all over town.

That's fair enough. I just suggested Mad Max due to the quality (but I get that it's not true mexican food), and it's within walking distance.

Fat Heads in the South Side is also a personal favorite, and like a 6 dollar Uber drive from Oakland.

Now that's a winning suggestion. :grinning:
