I am working in Harrisburg with time to kill alone tonight. Al's/Pizza Boy is #1 on my Harrisburg bucket list not to mention I want to scout it to see if it's a good place for some of my higher maintenance co-workers. But if it's gonna be ultra crowded or a scene, I'd rather not go there alone, I look too pathetic. Is this the kind of place a solo drinker can grab a spot at the bar and watch whatever's on the big screen TV? Thanks!

I go there by my self quite often, and sit at the bar and watch what is on TV.

Don't worry @Mipper, I'll hit you up soon enough... If you do send me the Jolly stout in a box (rather than bringing it with you) l'm expecting at least a growler in there too. (let's just call that a mix of newbie hazing and "you will not regret it")

There is a smallish (10-12 seat?) bar you can sit at but just know there is no bar service you must walk up and order your beer by number on their menu. People are usually friendly and depending on what time you're going it will be busy-ish.

In fact if it is a little later this evening shoot me a message and I'd meet you there and bring you a want or two off your list as a welcome to PA gift.

As it turns out I went with a couple guys who had their flights cancelled. Beer is great, food not bad. We'll be back a lot. I got thE Hop Tart and Sunny Side, really hope Permasmile is there again so I don't regret not getting it today.

    Pete,

Thank you for your response, it is nice to get clarification as to why you do not offer samples/flights. I hope to stop in again when i have more of an opportunity to sit for awhile instead of just a quick lunch stop. As a bartender, I understand that when busy it can really handcuff you to give out samples.

    Support local breweries!

    Cheers

Buddy of mine stopped by there last week on a drive from Pittsburgh back to Philly, he got at least 4, 32 oz growlers filled, shipped me 2, have a snIPA and a Sunny Side up, it just so happens that I got 2 other boxes of beer last week, birthday and what not, so I haven't opened them yet, but plan on opening the snIPA tonite...Sunny Side Up might wait until the fall. My buddy really liked the bar, he got there at lunch, and had no issue with service or food, he's a vegetarian too.

Thank you for the additional details regarding the distribution... I'm still wondering, and perhaps @petesuphi can help answer this, will distribution be moving closer to Philly anytime soon? To Montgomery, or even Chester county perhaps?

It took me a few times to figure out what the name meant, you should look again and remember what they sell to eat, his name isn't Pete.

I don't recall saying anything about needing help with a Permasmile, that said, a BA meetup at Al's in late July would be kinda cool.

You didn't say you needed help but if Seth and I help you out you would be able to drink more variety. You see we would be doing you a favor. Who needs flights when you have generous BA's to help you consume the beer?
