I know this was beaten to death a week or two ago and the thread got nuked, but as of now, the pizza boy sours are still unavailable, even for in-house "pour it into four glasses and throw the bottle away" consumption. I asked why (knowing the answer), and got one bartender rather rudely just repeated "they're unavailable" about 6 times in 5 seconds.

So, if you're planning on making the trip, don't bother.

I personally don't care because I've had them, but I do care for the people that came along that haven't had them after I talked them up all day. I understand the principle they're trying to hold to, but it's a shitty business practice from what in all other ways is a really nice place. At least give people a straight answer and properly advertise them as unavailable instead of advertising the bottles as available on the website (which they still are) and then denying sale to people who make the trip. Just my .02

I missed the earlier thread. Does this all stem from the dude who recapped his bottle in the bathroom?

I agree with their making a statement but they should properly indicate if/ they are available or not

Skipped going last Sunday just because of this and went to Carton instead. I wanted to share a permasmile with some friends. No go.

I don't really get the reaction.

Wait, so 1 guy recapped a bottle and took it home now they don't sell any bottles? Why not just stop selling all beer, that'll teach us. You just got to let that stuff go, 99.9 percent of your customers wouldn't do that so why punish them?

He didn't even make it home!!! He was caught!

I think their concern is how many people they HAVEN'T caught.

This is new concept, a brewery that makes beer and doesn't sell it.

Exactly. It's somewhat of a moot point because they have dozens of barrels in their back area now, and there's no chance in hell THAT much beer is going to be draft only. Al's a good guy and Pizza Boy is a good place, this is just (in my opinion) something stupid that was handled very poorly that won't be a problem once they're forced to sell bottles again if for no other reason than inventory.

If they're that worried about it, use a goofy bottle shape and cork the stuff. No one's going to re-cork a bottle...

A month or so ago the process was started to begin packaging Pizza Boy beers for off-premise sale. Maybe the bottles have been pulled waiting for labels and such, that way even if they remain on premise consumption Al dosen't have to worry about some idiot sneaking out with one. Just a thought.

The idea here is, and it's one that I agree with, is that the community will flush out the culprit and hold him accountable. I know for a FACT that someone on here (who shall remain nameless) knows who this person is, but they're not talking.

I hope the person responsible grows a set, and comes clean soon. What you did was a MAJOR jackass move, and you're now further punishing the community. You should know, you WILL be found out, and failure to do so voluntarily will result in exile from the community...I can guarantee you that.

Because it could've potentially cost Al his liquor license. That's his livelihood that puts food on his table and a roof over his family's head! It's a non-labeled bottle which cannot leave the brewery, end of story! Whoever did it needs to sack up and apologize to Al in person, sooner rather than later.

Look at it from Al's perspective, I'm just as pissed I can't drink the bottles they're titty, but I understand its a risk he can't afford.

I understand it from Al's perspective but it sounds like he's punishing everyone for one person's actions. It also sounds like they won't sell the bottles until the guilty person apologizes? That seems kind of trivial/childish to me. Also, didn't they catch the person who attempted to take the bottle out of there? If not, I guess it makes sense to find out who it was so you can ban them from the establishment. In the meantime, they are likely loosing out on a ton of money from people outside of the immediate area who are canceling visits because the sours aren't available. This won't affect the local business so much but I already know of a couple of groups of people who are postponing making a long trek out there because of this. Al is a cool guy and I love Terry's beers so I hope that this issue is resolved quickly and they can put it behind them.

Whomever did this, was definitely a colossal jerk. Worse than me, even. However, that individual isn't further punishing the community, Pizza Boy/Al is. Refusing other people beer because of one person's wrongdoing is just dumb. Also, the type of person that does this doesn't HAVE a sense of community, so being exiled from it won't matter much.

Easy solution...pour the glasses of beer behind the counter and serve your patrons glasses of the beer. If someone turns around and brings a bottle to handbottle it, well, then call the national guard or something. Or just stop serving all beer. I don't know what the best solution is, but I'm pretty certain this isn't it.

The whole of the craft beer loving community...you must suffer because one person is a colossal douche nozzle. I don't want anyone making the trip out here for my best stuff...I want to refuse ALL OF YOUR BUSINESS...until some moron admits his wrong doing.

Really...I just don't get it. The principle behind such a stance.

Really disappointed on how Al's is handling this whole situation. It's a shame too, for a brewery that was doing so well from a PR perspective. This is a HUGE step back!

I'm hearing really good things about the Brewery at Hershey and from what I've heard; their owner and brewer don't have a huge ego and act like they are god's gift to craft beer. Maybe Al's could learn something from them. Big ego's and getting ahead of yourself kills your reputation.

I've had a slight problem from day one to limiting their bottle for on site consumption anyway and this just pushes me over the edge.
