Some of us have kids and we don't like to drink good beer by ourselves.

Suggestion - Can you add a check box that indicates that the place is kid friendly? There could be a stat that indicates that X% of reviewers consider the place a kid friendly bar or eatery.

Good idea, that way we rowdy young bucks know to avoid.

Most of the time you can tell from the description. Beyond that, I'd venture to say many of us have differing opinions concerning what constitutes "kid-friendly".

Now, for once, I'm not opposing a suggestion, just bringing up potential issues...

(My advice, though: take some time and actually do a bit of research if it's that important to you.)

We all have differing opinions on atmosphere, service, etc. But it is still valuable to see a rating for them.

My words were more in response to the idea of a check-box sort of scenario. Frankly, I feel places like Local Option and Delilah's in Chicago are kid-friendly, but something tells me others wouldn't. With that in mind, the bulk text of the review would be of much greater import than a check in a box or lack thereof (and it's more important than the numerical scores, as well).

Again, I'm not against the general idea: it's just that the execution of it is better served, as is often the case, within textual descriptions, rather than context-free numerical scores and icons.

I think it is a good idea for people to mention it in their reviews (if they happen to notice) but not sure that a checkbox would suffice - I know the Pilsener Haus in Hoboken, NJ is very family friendly during the afternoons on Saturday/Sunday but the rest of the time is decidedly adult.

All the places I go are friendly to my kids, but then again they are 28 and 32.

When you review a beer, there are sections on the right side of the page called "Beer Review 411" (with links to tips on how to review beers) and "Other Tips". Maybe something similar could be added to the right side of the page when you go to review a place to offer tips and suggestions on things that could be included in your review, such as whether or not it is kid friendly. I'm sure there are probably a bunch of other tips/suggestions that could be made such as:
    • Time of day/day of the week you visited
    • Friendliness of staff and ability to answer questions
    • Speed of service
    • Did they serve beer styles in the proper glassware?
    • How did you know what beers were available (tap handles, chalkboard, beer menu)
Giving tips and suggestions on what to include could improve the usefulness of place reviews that are submitted and also make it easier for people who are novice place reviewers to have a better idea of what types of things they could write about.
