I don't know about the rest of you, but I really rely on the Places portion of this site. Whenever I travel it's a great reference as to spots to visit.

I am sure many of you could contribute greatly to this resource. If I am looking at a place and it's last review is 2011 I just assume it sucks and nobody goes there anymore.

I am asking nicely, please update some of your local joints, good or bad.

    Thanks,
    Joe

    I agree-
My only request is a way to have the locations mapped out- when travelling in NJ, there are so many little towns I never know exactly which ones to look for to find spots.
It would be so much easier to view it all on a Google Maps.

I use this all the time. The places are a great way to guage what are the good craft options. But I also follow up with some web searches to see tap lists, confirm the place is still open, and other information.

Just last month I did a Brooklyn pub crawl and mapped it all out. Good times.

I for one would like to be able to review breweries as Places.

Perhaps revamping karma and giving a bonus to review places might be a carrot to get more reviews going...

I'm still waiting for the reincarntaion of karma in some form, specifically for things like place reviews that help the community at large. I've added plenty of new places on BA because it may be the only way a person would know about them (unles they were a local).

I agree... and I really need to do this. I see a lot of BA's just referring to the places links when people ask questions in the regional forums...

I always try to review places wherever I go. It is one of the best parts about Beer Advocate, and can be much better if more people participated.

I don't review beers, but I do review beer stores and bars I go to.

Well, just because nobody's reviewed a place recently doesn't mean it sucks. Not many people from my town are active on BA, so some of our places haven't been reviewed recently, but are still good beer spots. Remember, BA users are just a tiny minority of craft beer drinkers.

I read the opinions in the various Places reviews before I travel, but I usually go to the breweries that are on my itinerary anyway, even if negative comments are made. Each of us has a unique opinion about what these breweries are like, although most should be somewhat similar. But what upsets me is that some breweries are listed in Places AND HAVE NO REVIEW entered. If a BA member is going to add a new brewery to Places, then please take the time to review it too!!

I have reviewed every place that I've visited over the past 2-3 years or so, and some other selected breweries before that. Many are visited during my travels and I likely won't be going back to many of them to provide an update, so it is important for each of us to take the time, whether you're a local to that brewery or passing through. It takes only a few minutes to write a couple of paragraphs.

I, too, wish more people would use it and that it would be more updated. Too many good spots don't show up in the top spot listings, and several on there are really not all that good.

I am new to BA and have noticed that some places especially breweries don't have the option to review it, does anyone know why? I would really like to review all of the breweries/bars/taprooms that I have been to but can't at the moment.

Does appear to just be places that are only listed as a Brewery... Perhaps Breweries that also have taprooms need to be listed as both Brewery and Bar in order to support reviews?

I rely on place reviews on here a lot and they've been extremely helpful! So "Thanks!" to everyone. I also now do a review of my own for places I go. Went to a bar recently that had some consistent negatives in one aspect of several reviews, when I was there it seemed like they had addressed the issue and improved, so I wrote it up.
