    Hey all,

I spent a bit more than I meant to on a super aromatic, floral IPA a few weeks ago. I decided to make the cheapest 5 gallon batch I can as a little bit of a challenge to keep things interesting.

I have about 2 oz of simcoe, 1 oz citra, and 1 oz tettnang leftover from previous batches, so I definitely want to use some or all of those (planning on sticking to JUST those) and caps and priming sugar left from other batches.

My plan is to make a "lite" beer, sort of a Yuengling with ale yeast. If I get bored, I'd like to bottle about 3 gallons normally and fruit 2 different gallons with local, cheap fruits to see how things turn out. Here's my plan so far:

    3 lbs extra light/pilsen DME
    3 lbs golden light DME
    steep .5 lb 80L crystal

    .75 oz simcoe 60 min
    .25 oz citra 30 min
    .25 oz simcoe 30 min
    .5 oz tettnang 15 min
    .5 oz citra 5 min

Safale 04 or 05 fermented around 63F in my basement for 2 weeks. Bottled with priming sugar.

Brewer's friend has that recipe at about 5% abv and 44 IBUs, give or take.

Any advice/feedback would be appreciated. Mainly, I'd like to know people's thoughts on using tettnang in this beer, I'm cool with a bit of spice in there, but I'm afraid of it clashing with the rest of the hops.

Don't give it another thought  ...but I would move your bittering Simcoe to a FWH60 and all Citra and remaining Simcoe to 5 min/KO...not really Yuenglingesque, but should be tasty.
    cheers

Thanks. The Yungling-esque is just my way of saying lite summer beer.

And I'm not sure what you mean by FWH60.

First Wort Hop for 60 minutes...means letting your bittering hops soak in your wort as it comes up to a boil from mash/sparge temps. Since you are using extract I guess you would just throw the bittering hops in early while stirring in your extract...never done it with an extract batch...cheers

edit: some here claim the FWH enhances the hop flavor, but I was suggesting it to make your limited amount of hops go a little further.

Tettnang hops are very subtle in comparison to the other hops you are using. I would be surprised if you would even detect the Tettnang hops because of this. Absolutely no need to be concerned about clashing here IMO.

    Cheers!
