The boundary waters canoe area (bwca) is a huge forest preserve on the MN/Canadian border with many lakes and it does not allow cans or glass within the boundaries.

When I homebrewed I used to bottle several of the large plastic coke bottles for BWCA trips. You could put them in net bag with a rock, tie the bag to a rope and then toss it into the water to keep the beer cold. As I recall years ago there was a liquor store in Ely that sold some beer in plastic bottles. TIP - on the day you go in fill a cooler with beer and ice, shut it tight and on your return even after 4 or 5 days the beer will still be a little cold and much appreciated.

In Serbia we are used to drinking beer from plastic. There are 2l plastic bottles that are good for a fishing trip or camping etc. It's not as tasty from plastic as it is from glass (which is my favourite), but when you don't have anything else plastic is the way to go, plus it's cheaper. :grinning:

I think if you are going to an area that doesn't allow glass or metal cans then you should be able to find the plastic bottles nearby. I know they are used in many states at sporting/concert events. It just makes sense for the nearby stores to sell them.

I wouldn't expect the best selection from them though. Probably the leftovers they didn't sell to the local sports team.

Steel Reserve, Milwaukee's Best, Magnum 40, & High Life (40's) are all in plastic bottles now (High Life clearly being the best option).

Anchor steam plastic bottles at Phillies games not sure if there are others. I had plastic bottles at the old Wenblu Arena back in the 1980's.

    Enjoy

Well I used the word "necessarily" and put the word craft in quotation marks but, if you wanna get into it, Anchor was apparently acquired by Skyy Vodka back in 2010. I don't know the details about the acquisition but, under the Brewer's Association definition of "craft," the brewery is no longer a "craft" brewery if more than 25% of the business is owned by an alcoholic beverage industry member that is not itself a craft brewer. Even if I were disregarding BA's definition, under my own loosely defined, non-technical definition of "craft," I don't see them as craft anymore. Yeah, they were highly instrumental in getting Americans to realize that more than just one type of beer exists and I will always have much respect for them as pioneers back in the day, but their offerings are dated and are no longer relevant to the "craft" market as we know it today, IMO.

You should have stopped there. How is an all-grain, non-adjunct-lager making brewery "not craft"? If you don't like their beers, fine, but to say they're no longer craft beer because there are many other breweries and beer styles around today makes no damn sense. They have dabbled in barrel aging and sours, so you can't even play those cards, arbitrary as they are.

Edit: "craft" is a pretty useless term, but disregarding the BA's definition, there is in no way any situation where Anchor is not craft. "Sorry, you're too old to be craft" is how I read that and I'm sorry, and that is absurd.
