Anchor was sold to some former executives of the company that owned Skyy Vodka brand - they now operate an import company, The Griffiin Group (associated with Preiss Imports and BrewDog).

For whatever reasons, the Brewers Association still considers Anchor "Craft" - #22 on their Top 50 Craft list for 2014.

Anchor is still officially "craft": http://www.brewersassociation.org/directories/breweries/

But, back to the OP: I can find no information on the plastic bottles of Steam Beer. If you live near a major sporting venue, try to figure out who is their distributor and contact them?

I still can't get my mind around a nature preserve allowing plastic bottles over aluminum cans, and quite frankly if you crush the glass bottles fine enough they would pollute even less than either of the others. (assuming you were such an ass that you didn't carry your trash out) Can anyone tell me the reasoning behind this?

Only thing I can think of is the old school way that most beers in cans used those plastic ring can holders. Which are horrible for the birds who get tangled in them. And maybe just the chance of broken glass either being stepped on or eaten by fish or other type of wildlife.

    Mike,

I have no information concerning the Heineken plastic bottle but 1 day sounds awfully short to me; that beer had to be packaged sometime in the past and distributed.

Below is some information for the plastic bottle that Miller uses:

“Miller is using a new five-layer plastic bottle designed and produced by Continental PET. Three of the bottle's five layers are PET (polyethylene terephthalate), and the remaining two are made up of a new polyamide barrier. The barrier allows the bottle to achieve a four month shelf life by ensuring that little oxygen enters the bottle and little carbonation escapes. While the bottle's five layer construction is capable of incorporating 25 to 40 percent recycled PET, the bottles being produced today do not include any recycled content.”

Oxygen & CO2 permeability is an issue but it is somewhat mitigated by the two layers of polyamide barrier.

I personally would not consider these types of bottles for my homebrewed beers since I frequently drink my homebrewed beers with up to a year of age in the bottle.

    Cheers!

P.S. I suspect that plastic bottled beers are available at events (sporting events, music concerts, etc.) since the beer life can be managed better. The folks selling the beer at these events know how old the beer is and they know that the beer will be consumed that day. Selling beer in plastic bottles as part of the regular beer retail chain is a tad more problematic since it is less easy to manage the age of the beer.

I have never heard one single report of a wild animal eating broken glass or for that matter an aluminum can. the rules make absolutely no sense especially considering that all packages are required to be packed out

Yeah I read about those plastic bottles in multiple layers, but I can´t get those blanks here in Mexico. I have a friend who owns a PET bottle factory and we found another called Beer PET (also multi layered) but couldn´t get it either.

    Cheers!

Not disagreeing just trying to find some logic in it. Really you need to relax. Obviously they're not going to change just for you or anyone else. Enjoy!

Ok, cool. Thanks for clearing that up as usual Jess. It's not that I particularly dislike Anchor's beers. I just find them to be rather pedestrian given the spectrum of diversity the market bears these days. The whole "craft" thing is so subjective anyway.

I'm certain that some of Minhas 'Craft' Brewery's offerings are sold in the plastic bottle format.

Why are you opposed to cans, other than you're used to beer in glass? It used to feel weird to me but I've learned that the beer is still just as good and won't get light struck. My only gripe against cans is the fact that I can't bottle homebrew in them.

It is a beer I can't honestly decide whether it's gross or it's fabulous. It's somewhere bouncing between the two.

I presume the injury you refer to is having actually tried the dreck that they peddle?

Yep. I don't know how they manage to perfect that signature swill note in most of their beers but there it is.
