A few years ago I was at a bar and got what the bartender (@ Benno's in West Allis, Wisconsin) told me was a Belgian Red. It was very red in color and reminded me of cherry soda. I also remember that the two glasses I had made me tipsy so I'm assuming it had a more than average alcohol content. It was on tap. That is all I remember other than it being an awesome beverage! I know it was not New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red as every beer depot/store around my house keeps trying to convince me it was. Any educated guesses about what the name of this beer possibly was so I can start taste testing? Thanks Much!

I second Luwak.. My instincts pointed toward Duchesse . but its like the entrance to hogwarts you have to believe its the same beer

Who cares if it wasn't New Glarus, it's all you should be drinking anyway!

Bought and tried it. Was okay but did not have the robust cherry flavor that I remember

Kasteel Rouge? Nicely cherry and quite potent.

sounds like Barbe Ruby. that was a syrupy cough medicine style Belgian red. it was sweet enough to be a dessert. made by the same brewery as Duchesse...Brouwerij Verhaeghe. it's also 7.7% ABV...almost twice what some others in this style are. i'd definitely compare the flavor to cherry soda, too.

Probably not on tap, but Drie Fonteinen Intense Red Oude Kriek popped into my mind first.

Another vote for Kasteel Rouge. Very cherry and gets you bombed.
