Especially when the beers involved aren't similar enough for an internet battle. Taste is subjective, and most of the threads that I've seen lately are incredibly silly. As happy as I am for the opportunity to make snarky comments that make me feel better about myself, methinks it would save people some stress if people stopped making these.

Think I'm an idiot? Waste of Thread? Whoops, bad on me.

Or you could, you know, not read the threads that obviously bother you, and let people do as they wish.

I always liked the "vs." threads over the years. Probably more than alot of people. I mean if you can't compare and discuss what beers you think are better on this site, where can you? But it seems to always be the same beers and same styles which has gotten old awhile ago. But this is all always new to someone..

Well this being a forum, and there being no harm coming out of such a thread, I'd say fair game. To understand the point of such threads, one must understand that not all markets have access to all beers at a given time, and with human nature as curious as it gets, people want to understand how one world-class beer compares to another, and if they are indeed missing out on a life-changing event by not having a certain beverage. I've had these thoughts myself at some point in my brief BA'cacy. Of course, with better experience and knowledge, we realize that the hype train rarely meets the expectations with a few noble exceptions. So, no, I don't think there's anything wrong with these threads. After all, isn't the whole thing about sharing our knowledge and experience with one another - what's there to take offense when a brother/sister wants to know something and we're in a position to help them?

Think I'm an idiot? Nah. Waste of thread? Nope. There seems to be a recent trend towards inane threads of all sorts. Certain people seem to delight in rabble rousing...

I think the versus threads are interesting when the beers are similar enough (ie: FBS vs WnB), but when you start comparing beers that have noticeable differences (ie: bourbon barrel aged stout vs bourbon barrel aged coffee stout) I don't think the comparison is as relevant. It becomes more of a case of how much people like the thing that the one beer has that the other doesn't. You should be comparing apples to apples IMO.

Now with all that said, people can make threads comparing whatever beers they'd like. If it doesn't interest me, I just won't read it.

I don't understand the criticism of threads/topics on BA. It seems like if somebody posts a thread about ANYthing related to beer, somebody comments about how it's a pointless thread, stupid topic, how tired they are of these same threads, that there's no point in talking about X, Y, or Z, etc.

First of all, if the thread or topic annoys you, immediately hit "Back" and choose a different one. For every thread I click on, I actually read the entire OP of maybe five of them. Of those, I scan or read the rest of the replies of maybe three. Of those, I might reply to one. I am capable of saying to myself "Huh, I don't have anything to say here and I don't care about the topic...back!" This is apparently a skill many BA-ers haven't mastered.

Second, this is an internet forum about beer. Lots of people from all over who are talking about beer. If it's relevant to beer, I don't see how it DOESN'T belong here. Again, if it's a topic you think is dumb, irrelevant, uninteresting, etc...refer to my previous point.

I enjoy them as long as it isn't Heady Topper vs Yeti. If it is the same style I enjoy hearing why people prefer one over the other.
