I am traveling to Portland for the first time at the end of the month. Is it easy to find Pliney and Heady in the Portland area? thanks
Pliny on tap is easy enough to come by, it's almost always on tap at Apex, though its a couple of dollars more expensive there than anywhere else in town. Heady is still on shelves at some stores - I saw some at the Market of Choice yesterday - but it's probably a couple of months old at this point.
I think it might be closer to three months at this point, but Dyan is completely right otherwise. Just to expand a bit... We get drops of HT once or twice a year. So I wouldn't call it readily available here. Luckily for you, the last few drops, the beer has not moved all that quickly, so if you're visiting soon you'll likely be able to find cans still. With a bit of a search. As for Pliny, we get bottles and kegs once a month. Bottles are snapped up pretty quickly. It's pretty rare to see bottles languishing on the shelf more than a few days after they come in. So if you're hoping to grab bottles, it will likely be a matter of timing for that to work out for you. Draft is much easier to come by. The Apex almost always has it available, albeit for a premium (as Dyan alluded to). I wouldn't go there unless you can't find it any place else. Portland seems to get a lot of kegs, so usually you can find Pliny available for a short while at better beer bars in town. Have fun and good luck!
