    Hey All,
Brewed up a batch of Morebeer's Pliny Clone kit on Wednesday. Only pitched 1 packet of 1056 liquid wyeast. After 3 days in the primary, the fermentation is not as vigorous as i expected. Should I get another packet and pitch it or just ride it out? Thanks!

When I brewed a 5-gallon clone recipe for Pliny I used two vials of liquid yeast per the recipe. I'd go ahead and get more yeast and add it.

is it okay to pitch more yeast 4 or 5 days into fermentation?

If you're not getting much yeast action yet, it's okay to still add yeast.

Could you please provide more details here? What level of vigor were you expecting and how is the fermentation at day 3 falling short with respect to those expectations?

    Cheers!

I set up a blowoff tube for the first time as I expected some krausen overflow. Has been bubbling steadily 24 hours after I pitched, about every 5-10 seconds.

What was your fermentation schedule? Did you transfer to secondary?

So, because you did not experience a blowoff situation you think that the fermentation is lacking?

If it was me I would not add any more yeast at this point in time since it seems to me the beer is fermenting.

For your next batch you might want to either pitch multiple packs of 1056 or make a starter.

    Cheers!

The recipe instructions say to dry hop in a secondary, but my notes don't indicate that I made this transfer, so I'm guessing that I dry hopped in the primary.

Per the recipe, the schedule was: fermented 10 days, then added the first dry hop for 9 days, then the second dry hop for 5 days. However, because I couldn't bottle on that 5th day it became either 8 days or 10 days before I found the time to bottle. (I erroneously made two notes on my recipe for my bottling date that are two days apart.)

P.S. After seeing your description about what bubbling was occurring for you, I agree with Jack to ride this one out. My notes don't indicate how vigorous my fermentation was.

EDIT: Looking more closely at my notes I just realized that I was mixing up my "intended" hopping schedule with my actual. My beer actually fermented 16 days before I added the first dry hop, and then 6 days with those hops until the second dry hop addition. Then 5 days before bottling. I didn't 'age' it 5 days next per the recipe's instructions.

Have you checked the gravity at all to see if there were any changes?
