It is all over the bottle to drink fresh. How long is it still considered "fresh"? 30 days? 60 days?

Had one about 90 days out and it was far from anything special.

Opinions vary. But, here where it is distributed, it hits shelves with no more than a week on it, sells out fast, and is most likely drank within a couple days.

I'd say those who are in CA within RR distribution zone usually drink Pliny with no more than 2-3 weeks on it.

When I first had it, I was not hardcore into IPAs and loved it with 30 days on it. Now that I am a crazy hophead, and my palate has grown, I would rather have it as fresh as possible, but will drink it whenever I can get it.

Drank one that was almost a month old and thought it marginal at best.

around a month is the threshold, and even that's pushing it, especially if you've had one when it's around a week or so. it's still a pretty delicious beer, but if you want the real experience, it's got to be as fresh as possible.

I think it's better in the winter (at least in Colorado) than in the summertime. I've gotten some july bottles the last two years that were pretty average. The last time I got a bottle (at the end of july), I was at a bottle shop as an employee was unpacking a fresh case in the cooler. I picked up one of the bottles, and it was warm (probably 85-90 degrees). I bought it anyway, and it wasn't all that good.

As much as people love to joke about this (BEST OUT OF THE BRIGHT TANK HURRRRRRRRR) it really is best as soon as you can get it. I wouldn't say that there's necessarily any hard and fast rule, but I wouldn't buy it more than a week old, personally. (That standard is tightened since I have a kegerator now and can get a great pale ale for $1.50 a pint whenever I want, if I'm going to spend 3 times that I want to get something 3 times better.)

I agree how it falls off fast..but find it funny that we (so-cal) have been getting 8-14 for the past 3 weeks even shipped today (9-11). Guessing we get the leftovers...haha. :sad banana:

Pliny is bottled two weeks past its best-by date. Even when you have it on tap, you can chalk up its underwhelmingness to it not being fresh.

Pliny is the worst beer ever made.

Three seconds after the hops are picked to brew Pliny it exponentially goes downhill.

Enjoying a Pliny, bottled four weeks ago, and it's OK. Doesn't quite live up to its hype. So if you're thinking of getting some Pliny older than four weeks, i'd pass.

Pliny is not as hoppy as some more recent DIPA's that everyone loves, and all are best as fresh as possible. Pliny being less hoppy in aroma/flavor of course means it will percetively age faster. Fresh Pliny is worth it though, it will still be more balanced than HT, Citra and others but a great beer.

I drank a year old Pliny a couple months back. It was a real . . . "treat."
