Hey guys - been a while since I've sought out Pliny, but I'll be traveling up to New Jersey next week. We'll be driving around Philly and I was wondering if there's a spot that typically has Pliny (if that even exists). I know bottles didn't make it east as of 2019, but was hoping that changed with COVID?

I'm trying to snag some for a local friend who has never had it but has been super generous with me.

    Cheers!

Still no bottles of Pliny in Phila area...........sadly I must say too.

On tap? The best opiton would be Monks in Philly, they seem to have it on tap the most.

I agree though, I have a huge hankering for Pliny, been awhile for me too. Good luck.

Also, as a follow up, any recommendations on kid friendly spots with good beer would be awesome. We're driving up from VA to Long Beach Island so I'm thinking outside of Philly may be a good choice.

Does anybody besides Monk's ever get RR? As far as I know, Monk's is the only place on the east coast where you can find any of their stuff.

Probably staying southeast of Philly the entire time.

Likely heading up 95 to Wilmington,
    NJ Pike to exit 34A
    Route 70
    Route 72

As has been discussed Pliny the Elder is draft only in the Philly area and is periodically available at craft beer bars.

Right now there are two versions of Pliny the Elder available on tap at Terresa’s Next Door (Wayne, PA):

    · Pliny the Elder Double Dry Hopped

    · Pliny the Elder

    https://teresas-nextdoor.com/beer-list/

FWIW I always request a sample taste of this beer prior to ordering a full glass since this beer is very sensitive to age/handling and I have on occasion tasted PtE will little to no hop aroma.

Now if only Hill Farmstead would ‘fully’ return to the Philly area like it was 6+ years ago.

    Cheers!

Edit: I see that it is also on tap at the Boathouse (Conshohocken, PA).

I'm not much help on the NJ side, but maybe others will chime in.

For Pliny specifically, this helps but only covers participating places in the city. I know other places in the PA suburbs have had it recently.

Several bars in the Philly area will get RR from time to time (or most of the time). I was drinking STS Pils and Happy Hops (both on tap) labor day at Pinocchio's in Media, PA (just outside of Philly)

I was in Wayne last week and there was a note posted on the door at Teresa's that said "Closed for Vacation". I noticed on the their website that the draft list hasn't been updated since August 30 so you should try calling them to see if they have reopened before heading out there.

For anyone in the NW suburbs, Troubles End on Collegeville still has Blind Pig, Pliny, and DDH Pliny on their guest taps.

Monks may also have Dinner. Which is better than Pliny. You can't change my mind.

I probably disagree, but I think it's a lot closer than most people will admit.

I don't think so. One is classic grapefruit character, the other is more tropical with newer hops (citra and mosaic). I'm not sure they're really that similar and it's more a matter of individual taste.

Yup, a classic example of 'apples and oranges' so to speak.
