Okay. This was brought to my attention yesterday by a good beer buddy. He told me that he was in Bensons Liquor yesterday when the RRBC rep was in there talking to the owner or somebody working there at the time. He told me that Bensons usually sells Pliny for 6.99. The RR rep told him that he's going around to all the stores that carry Pliny and other RRBC beers and making sure they sell bottle's of pliny for 4.99. And not price gouging on the pliny and other RR beers. He ended up getting a bottle of pliny for 4.99 at Bensons. If this is true then thats great news for those of us who pay more for pliny than we should. Not that I don't mind paying a buck over the cost for some good beer. But I've seen places where they charge 11-16 bucks for a bottle of pliny that you dont know if its been sitting in the back room for weeks! The owner of Benson was told that if he and other stores continues to charge over 4.99 they wont be getting Pliny in their stores anymore.

Update: Royal Liquor in Luecadia changed their prices also. And I complained, yesterday before I saw this thread, and they were very apologetic and offered me a free bottle! I told him I was not a freeloader and didn't want one but he insisted and I grabbed a Cascade Apricot Ale. He basically owed me $20 anyhow... good job Russian River! Royal Liquor now sells Pliny at $4.99. I also complained other price gouges with specific examples and he back peddled. So, they are still on notice

They had some at their Boyle Heights location a couple weeks ago and it was 6.99 a bottle.

Yeah in San Jose, it seems the only place I find it for $4.99 is Whole Foods. Everywhere other private liquor store that I see it at is gouging people at $6.99-$8.99 I would be happy to out the price gougers if it will help to get the prices lowered. Because I refuse to pay more than $4.99 a bottle.

Which whole foods sells pliny? I live right next to the Campbell one and it is bleh.....

I have stopped purchasing pliny at the other peoples places, and only grab bottles when at the brewery.

5.50 at Hollingshead in Orange, 7.99 at Bradley's in Tustin (where they hide it, make HUGE Facebook announcements saying that they have it [one per customer] hoard some for next week, say they got more, sell old Pliny, etc.)

Yeah, ever since the Pico location opened up, Boyle Heights has become the redheaded stepchild. Very little special stuff and the Pliny has dried up and when they do have it, they charge way more than they use to. For shame.

It was a good store. I guess we just spread the word too much about it. :/

If it's higher than 5.50, I don't fuck with it. They charge 6.99 for it because they know ************s will buy it.

I'm wondering if these RR reps have gotten to the Bradley's owner yet. I saw he posted today that he has Pliny and am interested in whether he lowered his price or not.

I'm curious as to whether or not RR also requested product be out on display and not be hidden in the back.

It's not worth it to me anymore. I used to be able to get multiples there for about 7 a pop - still bad, but it's not "limit one" $7.99. One time I asked for another Pliny (when the one limit just started) and the minion working replied, "Yeah, if you buy something else." Which I did, then he complained that what I got wasn't expensive enough. I should have stopped going there then.
