I'll add this to the long list of threads that make me want to type "I love beer" and then just leave.

    Carry on.

He's whining about this video, Russian River fans and the word 'hype' on his Facebook page...not just here.

Fascinating... The reaction this beer commands from people.

He's been whining about RR for a little bit.
I find it hilarious that while hes talking all that smack, PtE is winning their DIPA competition and going to the "finals" against Hangar 24's. There's absolutely zero competition there. I'm not even sure how Hangar 24's made it near the finals.

Great beer, terrible video (this is coming from a film student). Gotta love that super cheesy intro, feels like the doc came out in 1998.

That "trailer" is more like an infomercial (I am a film nut  )

Whoever made that video, for the love of God please do not get involved in the ``Beer Hunter'' movie.

Never had any of those except for KBS and (standard) BCBS. Certainly can't argue with you on those. I note that you didn't name any IIPAs though. I guess it's just not your cup of tea. That's the great thing about beer - the diversity is amazing.

How about your opinion on IIPA's?

Burton Baton is a blend of an old ale and an IPA so not truly an IPA, As much as I like Ruination and Mongo IMO HT and Double Sunshine are on another level.

While it's hard to tell exactly what direction this film will go in based on the trailer, I think a film focusing on exactly what goes into a highly anticipated beer release could be really interesting. From the brewing process, to the logistics of coordinating an event of that magnitude, and a bit of a history of the beer and brewery itself, it does seem like the film could have potential.

I live a state away and don't have access either most of the time, so I end up drinking mostly Cali IPA's at bars. Like last night I had a few fresh Mongos, DS and HT have a different hop character so may not be yout thing. Both are almost chewy with hops and more similar to Kern Citra than Mongo.

The west coast makes the best beer, ipa's, period. Then why on earth do we still have questions about the following, "going to san diego what beer should I try, get, buy. I don't see people asking going to Michigan what should I get. Going to the east coast, what should I get. Going to the midwest, what should I bring back. Do they have pliny the elder, the younger, sculpin, dorado, bad boy, exponential hoppiness, double jack, mongo, ruination, add any ipa name here, etc. Then why keep posting about the same topic here, if you folks, have the best IPA on the planet on your backyard.

So, not to interrupt the argument going on in here, but anyone know when this actual documentary is coming out? While it doesn't look very well produced I'd like to watch it.

No - there is a "beer documentary trailer" category though.

PtY is to die for in my opinion. I've gone to Santa Rosa the last two years for the release will be going again in February. A lot of others feel the passion as well. That's not hype. That's a lot of people who think it's a pretty fine beer.
As for PtE? So many great IPA's I only go back to it every 3 months or so but when I do it's wow! all over again.
    Earned praise not hype.

Pliny the Elder is super easy to trade for, good locals should snag it.
