Pliny the Elder bottles

    Happy ending: I looked at the Whole Foods Venice and literally missed their last bottle by about 3 minutes. I saw the guy who bought it with it. Their "beer guy" told em they got it in around noon that day (Friday) and this last bottle was gone before 6:00pm.

    Next, I tried the Whole Foods in Santa Monica. I could find no "beer guy" to talk to and there was no PtE on the shelf. The beer selection there was not nearly as large as the other WF so I'm not even sure if they carry it.

    In frustration, I texted a friend and asked about the last time he had seen Pliny in bottles. He steered me to a smallish, independent store that had it sitting right out in the cooler, two bottle limit. The "beer guy" there (probably the owner) told me they were running low but that the next shipment was due soon. He said he gets his shipments about a month apart.

    Yeah, the Whole Foods locations in Santa Monica aren't all that special beer-wise, especially when compared to Venice. Wednesdays are typical delivery days in that part of L.A. from my experience.

    Ramirez had a good dozen or so bottles in the front of one of their coolers as of 5:30PM yesterday. Might still be worth trying this morning.

    I'm not sure about SoCal, but outside of the bay area and wine country up north, I think once a month shipments are the norm for RR deliveries. That's what we get up in Oregon, and that's what SEPA was getting when I lived back East. In the bay area and wine country, I was told that once a week deliveries are what they typically get.

    This doesn't surprise me at all. In my experience, WF "beer guys" are some of the least helpful "beer guys." They're always incredibly cagey and dishonest about their stock. I overheard two beer guys at Hillcrest (San Diego) WF talking about how much they bought for themselves of a new shipment (I can't remember what it was. I think Tounge Tickles) that none would make it out onto the shelves.

    La Jolla is a little more on the up and up, but I've long suspected they've ordered things that have never made it out of the storage room.
