    Hi Guys,

I have a friend of mine trying to get me Pliny The Elder in the Riverside area but the only place that ever has it is Total Wine and they only allow one per customer. Can anyone point me in the direction as to where I could send him that will have it AND allow more than one per person? Thank you for your help

Sadly, it's even tough to get at the brewery these days. If you don't get there with in the first couple hours of them opening, they'll go right through their daily allotment.

    GL!

It's always one per person- gotta make multiple stops of you want more than one -

Or. Get a girlfriend - the mule method works-

Other BA's, before you BLAST me don't lie - everyone's done it before / I don't do it often - get back to work

Yup. I used to live in Riverside and the only places that get them (Thursdays) are La Bodega and El Cerrito....But since there is a limit one per person it's just not worth for me to drive. The other place is Olive Ave Market in Redlands, but that's even harder to get it there.

Lost count of the # of times I have done this, of course then we proceed to go home and she cracks open what I brought her along to mule for me. Lesson learned..don't introduce girlfriend to beers you enjoy.

Back in the day 5 or 6 years ago I would be on the road looking for a Pliny bottle or two wherever it was available. Gone are those days thank god. There are so many better ipa's out there that if a bottle or two was available at my local store I would pick it up. But no more driving around. Not worth it. Whats worth the drive is to Alpine and Kern for some of the best ipa's on this planet. IMO. Let the younger kids do some pliny searching and let us older dudes kick back with a pint in hand enjoying life!

Or, and try to follow me here, you just don't develop a taste for ipas. I know, west coast, not a fan of ipas..blasphemy, but it opens doors to other brews I might have skipped over.

Granted I will still sit down and drink a pliney, nelson, or whatever is placed in front of me or purchased, but definitely is not my go-to choice.

+1...Just brought myself 6 Nelsons and a growler this weekend. Don't even need Pliny anymore...Don't get me wrong, I'll get one on tap anytime, but to do all the hunting? No thanks, not anymore.

You're only going to find it with a Limit One, and you're rarely going to find it to begin with.

Also, "Riverside area" "Total Wine". What. Rancho I guess?

Not Riverside, but IE, Ramona liquor in Rancho Coucamonga has Pliny pretty often. They'll sell you more than one bottle if you're nice.

Exactly! Kern River JO, Citra & Alpine Nelson all day. PTE is great, but one of the many reasons, (due to the supply & demand), is that the majority are drinking uber fresh bottles of it. OP, have your friend try pick up an IPA from a reputable SoCal brewer that is between days, and under 2 weeks old, and you more then likely will find you like them as much, if not more, than PTE, and these will take a fraction of the effort to get a lot of. Some of my very easily obtantible go to to IPA's, APA's and just great hoppy session Pales as of late:

    Pizza Port Ponto's
    Pizza Port Swami,
    Modern Times Fortunate Islands
    Ballast Point Sculpin
    Lagunitas IPA
    Bear Republic Racer 5
    Alesmith IPA
    Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA
    Firestone Walker Easy Jack
Also grab a few of El Segundo's line up, Hop Tanker, Blue House Citra, Two 5 Left, etc.

I can keep going, but, hope your friend seek outs something else, other then PTE. Just try to get fresh as possible. Makes all the difference. Taking nothing away from PTE, it's a delightful beer, and I'm not saying by an means that any of these are PTE clones, but, PTE is not the only amazing fresh beer to be had in Socal.

RE: @Retsinis Completely agree on your point. Insane how many folks in SoCal (visiting or living here) are constantly trying to track down Pliny when we have an insane abundance of local (and not-so-local) options here that prove to be just as enjoyable. You're totally right -- Pliny favoritism is likely due to the freshness at which it's consumed, versus most other IPAs/DIPAs (ranging from within a few days of bottling to months from bottling, in many cases).

What up to my Riverside/Corona beer heads.
Yes, the above mentioned El Cerrito and La Bodega have proven to be the only sellers in my proximity where I can consistently find PTE. I just picked up 2 bottles of PTE and 2 bottles of blind pig at bodega on this past friday, fresh and delicious as can be. However I tasted them side by side with a can of Topper I scored from a friend and the Topper dominated in smell and taste, I was quite surprised. I am also headed out to Alpine tomorrow for more Nelson and pure hoppiness which like you guys already mentioned happen to be right up there with all these premium ipas. life is good yall.

Thank you for all your help guys! At this point I guess I'll take just the one I can get my hands on.

Does anyone have any good recommendations on some West Coast readily available stouts or porters?

Depends on where but you may be able to find some lost abbey serpent stout still around.
