I posted a thread by this title earlier today and it's not showing up so I apologize if this is just a repeat. We learned about Pliny the Elder in class today. My Professor ended the discussion by saying, "He is the only Ecyclopedic author from the Roman Empire to have a beer named after him." She even included a picture of a Pliny bottle accompanied by a pint glass.
That's a great reason to go to office hours to see if she has any. Your location is FL so I imagine that'd be a score. Or just yuk it up about beer and have her like you.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Ecyclopedic author from the Roman Empire"? There are a few beers off the top of my head named after the Philosopher King , Marcus Aurelius..
There were about 5 main Encyclopedic authors during the Roman Empire. I'll leave all the nitty gritty details to those interested enough to check it out. Pliny the Elder (Gainus Plinius Secundus) wrote an Encyclopedia called Naturalis Historia which covered all your basic topics of Natural History that you would see exhibits of in a Natural History Museum
I get you, I thought you meant encyclopedic in their knowledge , not in actually writing encyclopedias.
When I was a student in CA, everytime my family visited they'd bring me RR beer, so I can vouch for drinking PtE alone raising one's GPA!
She should have brought a keg. Challenged the students to a keg-standoff (similar to a western showdown).
If you want to impress your prof. you should counter with: did you know that PtE is credited with the myth that ostriches bury their head in the sand or bushes so as not to be seen?
