Not sure what that has to do with my awesome PtY experience, but whatever.

Haha, my man, you can't visit SF and ask about Monkish when Cellarmaker is the king!

Monkish doesn't distribute. You go to Torrance (a good 6 - 7 hour drive) or you don't.

Younger should be on tap at the SF beer week opening gala event. If you want to try a bunch of good NorCal beer this is probably a good spot.

PtY at Danville, CA’s Pete’s Brass Rail. It’s a lottery now and normally 3/5 or 4/5 of us who put our names in win and we all just go and share. Super hassle free and easy as pie. Had PtY and Altamont Brewing’s TIPA named Scarcity anc I’ve gotta say, Scarcity was really damned good and was on par with PtY. Altamont’s making some great ipas/dipas.

It would be cool to see venues do blind tasting events with PtY and other TIPAs. This would benefit the bars due to (a) selling more beer, (b) bundle pricing, and (c) reduction of shit showiness. It would also benefit consumers by giving them a chance to taste the beer while also providing a fair comparison to other high quality beers. I for one would take advantage of the opportunity to test whether it really is that good compared to the competition. I suspect that it isn't, and that others would agree. That said, I still would like to be able to get the beer without going through an ordeal, which is becoming increasingly difficult. In the long run, the blind tastings could help unclog the PtY lines filled with people who come out of the woodwork to try the beer who have never had an IPA in their lives.

The pub where I usually get my pour of PtY will do this with PtE. I definitely think it could do really well as a more widespread tasting experience.

I think Bobby G's Pizzeria did something like that last year.

That's what City Beer Store does in San Francisco. They usually have a blind DIPA/TIPA tasting for two days, and one of them is PtY (and another is usually PtE). I think there's 20 beers in all over the 2-day span?

My recommendation is to go to toronado every day and ask Paulie if they have it on tap today. One day you've got to get lucky.

Last year was my first year going to the brewery, but I followed the recommendations in previous threads. Went on a midweek night (Tuesday). Didn't get there until 8pm due to traffic driving up from the south bay. Waited in line for a little over an hour.

If you're going during the day, expect 6-8 hour waits. I don't know what time the line starts in the morning.

The only tickets I'm aware of, assuming they do the same as last year, is each person will get a wrist band upon entering the pub. That will have three pull off tabs good for the purchase of one PtY each. No pre-purchase necessary.

Since you say you’ve gone on release day before, can you answer me a quick question about timing? What time would you say one needs to be at RR to somewhat reasonably expect to get in during the first wave? We don’t mind waiting in line, but since Friday looks like the only day for us, we figured it would be cool to actually try to make it in the morning.

Last year on a Wednesday we got there one hour and a half before open and didn’t get in on the first wave. I think getting in line 2 and a half hours before open is a good idea.

Ok thanks. We will probably go even earlier than that, considering the lines on Friday will probably be worse. How long did you all end up waiting after all, if you don't mind sharing?

2008 or 09 (I don't remember these days-whatever the last year they filled growlers of Younger), the wife & I flew to SFO and rented a car and got to RRBC around noon after checking into our hotel in Santa Rosa. That was on Friday (1st day of release). Waited in line for 4+ hours and another 30 minutes for the bar. The following year my buddy & I flew to SFO rented a car and drove straight to RRBC on the first Monday after the weekend release. Got there 30 minutes before the doors opened and was the first 2 inside. When we left 2 hours later there was a line waiting to get inside. Good luck. Have fun. Enjoy the younger. I don't do the Younger these days unless I get lucky......lottery.

Got there hour and a half before open and missed the first wave, got in with the second wave about 3 hours after they opened. total wait was about 4 and a half hours. It rained most of the time, but the people around us in line were pretty cool and it went by fast. Once your group is in line and gets a hand stamp you can leave one person to hold the spot and do some walking around. The bookstore across the street is a good bathroom spot and there's a Pete's coffee right there too.

One thing I will mention for everyone is that the police drive by about every 30 minutes during younger weeks looking at the line and it would probably be unwise to try drinking in line, unless you conceal it very well. They take the no open container thing pretty serious apparently.
