I'm thinking about meeting my buddy and some of his colleagues from Space X in San Francisco in February to run up to RR one weekend for Pliny the Younger. I am curious as to some fellow BA advice on which weekend would be best to go, how we should plan it, what to expect, and just any helpful info you can provide so that we don't have a bad time as neither myself nor any of them have ever been.

Also, if I do make this trip then fear not; I will be bringing as much CCB loveliness as possible. Thanks

3+ hour wait (regardless of you get there 3+ hours early to be at the front of the line or get in line once it has formed), worth it once you get inside. Just be ready for a wait, it was long last year on a Monday and I can't imagine it being any better this year. And since my experience was on a Monday, I would say there is no "best" time to go, just have to suck it up.

Just dig around for one of over a dozen bars in SF area that get some. After the 'tion night at Toronado I went over to NOPA for a burger and they had it on. Smallish pours in fancy glasses. Dont remember what it cost and didnt care. Put that burger in front of me and I cant see straight.

I've heard that Super Bowl Sunday is a slightly better time, which is when I'm going this year. Went last year on the first Saturday and waited 7.5 hours.

Wife and I went on Super Bowl Sunday last year. We got in line at 10:20 am and were probably 100 or so people back. We managed to be seated at one of the last tables with another couple. Everything was pretty smooth, had Pliny's in our hands by 11:15. I recall the line being pretty long when we left, I can't image what it looked like during game time.

This year we went on the 14th which was the last day they had it on tap. We went late afternoon and weren't seated for about 2 hours.

We went the second Friday, got in line around 1:30 and were in the doors by 4:30. Quite an experience! My friends came up from LA on Saturday morning and wanted to be first in line. I believe they got to RR by 6:00am and were first in line. When the doors opened @ 10:30am, the people said it would be a 5hr wait if you were at the end. By the time we left, it was close to a 7hr wait.

I do not think I will go this year, but if I do I will definitely go during the week.

Is there a reason to wait in line at RR for hours instead of going to one of the places in SF that don't advertise well in advance and therefore don't get the huge crowds? Given that all the PtY is tapped fresh, I don't see the advantage of waiting in line at RR unless one is nostalgic to drink it at the brewery.

Last year I walked right into places that had it without any line and could have ordered as much as I wanted.

Super Sunday won't play into the equation this year unfortunately.

I thought the weekdays were the best time to go. Is that just a thing of the past now and every day is a cluster fuck?

Used to be, not anymore. Gone are the days when you could just walk in on a tuesday afternoon. There was no day this last release where there wasnt a wait. So like others have said, weekday will at least be slightly shorter, get there before they open, plan to wait a couple hours. Option two, several places in the area get it, pour might cost you a little more, and might be a little smaller, but you wont have to stand on 4th street for hours.

I went on a weekday and it took an hour to get in after opening.
If you have to go on a weekend, I would try to get there by 7 am.
Recently, a guy sitting at the bar from Sacramento was asking about PtY.
They told him that he was better off going to the Bistro in Hayward so he didn't have to wait in line.
Even the other places in SoCo had lines this year and sold out within one hour.

Jeez this is insane. What are California's open container laws like? Reason why I am asking is because while waiting in line for Hunapuh's day we all do a pretty damn good bottle share in line. Wouldn't suck to pass the time that way.

No open containers in public. But that doesnt really stop a bottle share. Bring some cups and keep the bottles out of plain sight and you should be fine. At least thats how it goes in southern ca. Not sure how the santa rosa pd feels about it.

I doubt a bottle share is feasible outside RR during PtY. They have very strict rules about leaving their patio with an open container - my GF got yelled at once for briefly walking along the outside of the fence in order to help the server identify the right person to give food to. RR is also right downtown so a heavier police presence is possible.

I think you being able to order more than one outside the brewery not normal. Yeah there are a few places that its possible but those places are dwindling each year.

That's the reason I've gone to the brewery but even then, I wouldn't go on a weekend. Last year I was on the patio for several hours and had way more than I should have had. Probably enough to cover me for this year.

That's a fairly compelling reason. Last year I was good after one PtY, one PtE, and a couple 'tions, so I'm not approaching this from that perspective.

I'm gonna brave it this year for the first time. I'm thinking about getting in line around 7-8am. Freeze my ass off for a few hours for a single beer. Makes perfect sense to me.
