I just got back from Hollingshead's, and they were saying that Pliny the Younger is "scheduled" to come in February 17th. They also mentioned a RR tap takeover which would be cool. I'm not sure if he was serious, but he mentioned having a magician to keep the line entertained.

My buddy said he waited 2 hours one year and didn't get any. Is it worth the wait, and what other places in OC is it available?

I was in line at hollingshead last year for over 4 hours.... not worth the wait if you've had it before.

In the case of Beachwood, they are selling fundraising tickets for Melanoma research for a chance at a pint of Younger, therefore eliminating any lines, you win and redeem your ticket for a pint within their pouring window. The classiest way I have seen to date if you really want to drink this stuff.

    Cheers…..

I think that the hundreds of thousands of people that attend beer festivals every year disagree with you...

I know anthill pub @ UCI had it last year, it was on a first come first serve basis.

Totally worth it. Quit your job, get in line now. This is a beer that will change your life!!!!!

I kid, of course. But what do you want people to say? It's a great beer. Is it so much greater than anything that's easily available at your local bottle shop that you should wait in line for hours for a pint? Probably not. But I've done it, and I'm glad I did. I actually had fun, waiting in line with wife and friends. We just made a party of it. The line was ridiculous, but what the hell, we had a story to tell, a beer experience that not everyone has had. And the beer was great. Will I do it again? I dunno, depends on how long I think the wait will be and who I might con into waiting with me. Your results will vary.

Yeah, Hollingshead has tapped Younger on President's Day for the past three years, at least. And there were always at least Elder, Pig, and 2 other sours tapped along with it.

If your friend only waited 2 hours, then he definitely got there too late. I waited 3 hours in line 2 years ago. The year after was 4 hours. The trend is getting longer. I'd do it again and would try and get there even earlier, if my family allowed it. I wait that long not just for Younger, but for the other RR brews, the fantastic sandwiches, delicious deviled eggs, and enjoying craft with fellow beer lovers in the best place to grab a pint.

Is it worth it for you? If you've just been there and asking whether its worth it or not, then the place prob isn't for you. You should seek it out elsewhere. Tustin Brewing has a pretty good ticket system that minimizes wait time, sort of. Past couple years it was on a Wednesday though, which is an odd day.

Agree. The line waiting is only bad if you're with lousy company. On our last PtY trip, once we got in line we let the line-regulators and the parties around us know that one of us would be stepping out of the line for a moment. He then goes across the street to Anapalcos to pick up some grub (Chilaquiles of course), and we'd just enjoy our breakfast while playing cards and hung out. The hours go by so much quicker.

Really? I've been waiting in line for beer since before I could drink legally. If what you're saying is, "no beer is worth waiting in line two hours for when there are so many excellent alternatives you can get without all the hassle," then I agree. But never wait in line? Which would mean never going to a beer fest, never getting a beer at a ballgame or concert, never going to a crowded bar or party etc etc etc.

If you're going to a beer festival like Firestone's,
you're going to wait in line. At least you get to try dozens of different beers.

Unlike, PtY you're waiting a few hours in line just to try one beer.

I waited in line last year for 2 and a half hours for something like a 6 oz pour of PtY.

    Was the beer good?
    Yes.

Would I wait in line to try Pty again?

No. Unless, the place is having some kind of event at the same time and the tap list is insane. IE: CFH 2012 bottle release party.

Well, and... you know, the other 12-15 beers on tap. But otherwise, solid point...

So younger question... I know the RR brewpub is planning to put younger on tap starting on Friday February 7th and I'm planning on going that morning. I've read stories of how crazy the lines get, so what time should I get there so that I'm not waiting in line all day? Looks like they open at 11 am, So how early should I get there?
