Lunch currently uses Warrior, Amarillo, Centennial and Simcoe hops

Pliny uses Columbus, Centennial and Simcoe hops

I prefer fresh MO to Lunch personally, just a solid pale ale that I could drink all day. First batch of lunch I had was amazing, revisited a batch a few months later and was underwhelmed as well.

If Lunch was a rip off Pliny recipe, it sure wasn't executed right...

I've had around 5-6 bottles of Lunch over the last 2 years, none fresher than a 3 week old bottle and the others were around 4-5 weeks. Good beer. Nothing to write home about though. Not apples to apples but I actually was more impressed with ZOE.

Maybe this is because the Pliny the Elder I had wasn't consumed days after it was bottled, but I was disappointed with it. I think there are far better DIPAs out there and I feel Pliny is way overrated.

I'm not buying anything from MBC unless they upgrade to fancy labels.

Mmmmm Double Jack! I was hanging out with a brewer one time and I mentioned that I wasn't a huge fan of dIPAs. He said "You don't like Double Jack??" and I had to stop him "Hold on now! I never said I didn't like Double Jack!" as I've typed it out, I realize it's not a very exciting story. Sorry. The point stands though - I'm not a huge fan of the style, but I love me some Double Jack. And yeah, sure, Pliny too - it's just not distributed widely to Santa Barbara, so I don't typically go out of my way for it.

I was wondering if someone was going to make that point. These two beers are only 1% ABV apart, though, so I'm not sure how much of a difference it really is in this case.

But yes—drink up, bitches. One and all.

Don't really understand why you and the other posters with the "just drink the dam beer" comments think this and other threads comparing beers are polluting the forum. We get it. You don't like to compare beers. But I would venture to guess that at least half the threads on here are about, or turn into, beer comparing threads in some way. So obviously some people like to read or post about it. Why not just let people talk about the shit they want to talk about and go on to a thread you might enjoy. One possibly titled; "What's up with these freaks who like to compare beers to each".

I dunno, dudes. I'm drinking my bottle of 5/21 bottle of Lunch right now, and it's pretty super. Still, never had Pliny.

5/21 Lunch is BY FAR the best batch in a long time. The beer hasn't been right since last June imho. The 5/21 batch of MO is also phenomenal, so my hope is they finally have the new system dialed in & are ready to go. MO has been more off recently than Lunch. The 3/19 batch was just bad.

What is it with all the noobs posting these uneducated threads? Not the same style for 1 and lunch to me always underwhelms. And I am not that big of a fan of Pliny either.

Lunch is great. Pliny is great. From what I looked into, L-ipa P-dipa. Either way great beers and anyone on here going, eh ah, ok, meh, not up to hype, etc. WTF. I learned ipa hype means great flavor and extreme drink ability, both beers can handle the hype, name me any ipa tha has actually lived up to hype other than theses (I agree hype works, sucks is fucking awesome) and we'll talk. (Hopslam sucks boom) Really though, people can't handle a sought after beer anymore unless it's barrel aged
