I don't buy MBC anymore. I would rather trade for Pliny.

Can you buy beer straight from the brewery at MBC? Just curious if Lunch is cheaper from the brewery than at stores. When it comes around I think I usually pay about $6-7 per bottle.

I will usually spring for a fresh Lunch when I come across one. Usually only one due to price, but I unfortunately don't get out to bars much, so a $7 is fine every now and then at home. I have been fortunate to have Pliny on a few occasions, and thought it was incredible, very balance and could drink them all night.

    I still prefer a Topper.

But as far as this thread, I would buy Pliny over Lunch if I only have $7 and both were on the shelf. However, that will probably never be the case...

I have drank plenty of Lunch and only a few Pliny, I would say Pliny lived up to the hype. Both excellent, I would choose Pliny.

I thought this thread was gonna be you asking "Do I want to buy lunch today, or spend my last $X on some beer instead?"

I didn't like Mo much either. Their IPA's have no mouthfeel what so ever. Love MBC dark beers though.

Had Lunch for the first time last night. Bottled 5/21/13. It was fairly pedestrian IMHO. I know this, I will never pay 7.99 for one again. Even st half that price I would hesitate. Pliny kills it.

Having consumed both in a very recent time span---Pliny wins, no contest.

I'm surprised at how many people are putting these two at relative parity. I like Lunch quite a bit, but if I understand Pliny (which I've never had), it's a DIPA, right? I know I don't prefer Lunch to Enjoy By, or Hoptimum, for example. More drinkable, no doubt, but as "good?"

Yeah, it's subjective. I'm just surprised, that's all.

This is ridiculous... and a perfect example of what having no clue what you're talking about looks like.

Lunch is pretty accessible in the NH area. I had two bottles on 6/8 and they were amazing. I've never had Pliny so I'm not comparing.

Pliny whips Lunch -- it is too grassy and herbal for me. Awesome aroma though -- one of the best in beer.
Lunch isn't even MBC's 4th best beer -- Mo, King Titus, Zoe, and Peeper all get out the paddle with the holes on Lunch. Their prices are outrageous though.

I'll do you a favor and take your extras off your hands. Loved every bottle of MBC I've ever consumed.

Looking forward to trying some Lunch when it comes in next week. It seems pretty hefty at $8 for a 500ml bottle, but hey I gotta give it a whirl. Have had probably a case worth of Pliny overall so I should be able to do a decent comparison from memory.
