My buddy is going to be sending me some pliny from the states but ive read that its a beer that should only be drank fresh. Obviously its going to be better fresh, and i do want to see what all the hype is about but would it even be worth it for him to ship it over here? We're talking about a 1 week travel time hopefully but as far as cost and taste, worth it or not?

With very rare exception this beer is fresh wherever it is purchased because it NEVER lingers on store shelves. If you get it a week or so after purchase it will still be a great-tasting beer.

P.S. Welcome to the site. Where is 'over here'?

It will be fine, If you've never had it before it will be better than fine.

Just drank one bottled 2/25 last night. It was as good as the tons of fresher ones I've had. I'm sure a week from now it will still be delicious.

One of the best ales I've ever had and when I brought 2 cases with me back to Ontario,(1 for me and 1 for my buddy), 3 weeks later it was still outstanding! Welcome.

That is too long. It will be ruined. Tell him to send it to me.

Seriously, it will be great. Enjoy it.

Thanks for all the input! Hes putting it in the mail this next week, ive also heard of losing its oxidation? Not really sure what that means but, what does that mean?

I honestly can't tell if you're trolling or not, but a beer doesn't lose oxidation. It gains oxidation. It's a chemical process and leaves the beer tasting weird. A month old pliny won't taste weird, it will be delicious.

Here in Philadelphia, we don't get our Pliny until about a month after it was kegged, and it's still delicious every time I have one on draft, with rare exception of bars holding it for months for an event.

    Do it

And are you currently in another country, or is Texan pride that strong that receiving beer from another US state is considered to be coming from "the states"?

I am not really sure there is much of a difference between a bottle that is 1 week old vs. 3 weeks (as long as its kept cold). But I do see a difference between bottle and getting it from the tap at the brewery.

As long as it's not 3 weeks or older, because this is what happens to 3 week old Pliny

    Waaaaaaaaaaay past it's prime.

Absolutely you should do it! If this is the means by which you are able to try it, DO IT! Don’t listen to anyone who says not to try because it may be a few weeks old (or even a month … *gasps*). Even if it is not at its prime, it is still a fantastic beer. Also it will give you something for a nice comparison when you try it fresh at the pub :grinning: !
