I'm relatively new to the region (moved here Jan 30th) and am slowly getting my feet wet in the local scene. While I enjoy IPAs, heavy, thick, rich, bitter, malty stouts are my thing a la Russian Imperial Stouts and Barrel Aged Stouts. So far, and admittedly I am new to the scene, my favorite stouts have been Des Voignes Imperial Stout (the only good one I have found in the Woodinville area), Holy Mountain Midnight Still and Silver City Time Traveler.

Woodinville isn't terribly far from Arlington. Get up to Skookum and grab some Murder of Crows. Very nice beer.

About an hour north according to Google Maps, but certainly will make a trip up that way one of these weekends. Thankfully, my fiancee shares my obsession with dark heavy beers, so she is always down for a trip like that. Thanks for the heads up and glad to be back in a location that has a great craft beer scene.

There's another neat little brewery in the area, Whitewall. Plus, Everett has several breweries, so you could poke around the area. If you like to camp, Camano Island State Park is nice, and Naked City recently opened a location there.

Skookum is absolutely worth the trip North but you can find Murder of Crows around. I saw some at the Lynnwood Whole Foods the other day. Pretty sure I've seen it at Chuck's and total wine, as well.

Get over to Black Raven in Redmond if you haven't been there already.

Made it to Black Raven this weekend, no stouts on tap but had a few other tasty beers. Also discovered Hi-Fi Brewing down the street, their Whisky Vanilla Porter was quite enjoyable.

Not sure how far it gets out, but Farmstrong is bottling their Steer You Right Imp Stout. It is basically the same beer as Skagit River's Trumpeter, which Mike brewed when he brewed at Skagit. Worth trying if you see it.

Good to know. Thanks for the heads up Terry. When it was around, I was always a huge fan of the Trumpeter.

Not sure if you were still looking for this, but I was at Fort George today and they still have it for sale. It was $12 or $15. I remember reading someone was wondering about this. Had I known it was you, I would've picked it up for you. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the thought. It's only beer (so I keep telling myself), so no biggie. But, I have a friend going to Bend at the end of the month, maybe I can talk him into a detour? I am, after all, house sitting his cat. What is ********* worth?

Murder of Crows has become a go-to 4 pack purchase whenever I see it. Excellent stout.

so this isnt a stout and not an always available beer, but i didnt want to start a new thread for it.

Black Butte XXIX drops tomorrow at the PDX pub location. not sure about you guys, but this is one of my favorite annual releases (probably even more than Abyss) , especially with about a year or two of age on it. Looks like somewhat of a mexican spice version this year.

got the Black Butte taster tray yesterday. This years version is good, but as usual it will need to sit for a year.

as for the rest, they were all fantastic. 24 and 26 were flat out amazing

Thanks for the update. Really need to get down there to sample the BB vertical while it lasts. Hopefully can get over there this weekend.

The Black Butte anniversary beers age extremely well. Grabbing a few for the cellar is a must.

Beer Junction usually does a BB vertical, i think they are doing a 5 year on soon.

    Edit: July 27th

If ever there was a night for a bump, this is it.

I had a pour of Skookum's Woke Up Quick tonight and highly recommend it. If this was bottled or canned, it would easily be a go-to during the winter season. It's a lot like Founder's Breakfast Stout but, in this drinkers opinion, infinitely smoother. While Founders BS is an oatmeal stout base with a big roast profile, Woke Up Quick is an "oatmeal coffee milk stout". Smooth as hell, huge coffee nose, but enough dark chocolate and roast on the palette to remain interesting.

Black Raven announced their yearly Grandfather Raven release for October 20th. Definitely looking forward to that one.
