I think you should tell what type of beer we're talking about. I would never get a canned beer that I planned on aging or a high abv beer, and if the beer is offered in both formats, I would never buy a can. This is due to BPA in can liners and problems which can cause your beer to taste like metal.

What's wrong with you people??! A can would crush if used against a skull. Definitely go with bottles! Doh!!

I have no preference as I always decant to a glass-
My vote goes to bottle by default as most of what I drink at home is available in bottle only-
Not opposed to can at all, it's just not as prevalent.......yet.

cans vs bottles the ultimate debate...

Bottles are great you cant go wrong, however I think the can is more versatile and preserves quality of beer to a greater degree. Now before you bottle ****s start your verbal assault hear me out, and just remember its only my opinion it doesn't mean I'm right or wrong, it just means you're wrong.

Now, why I think cans are superior to bottles:
    1) cans now are being topped off with nitrogen to create a great seal so that there is absolutely no chance any air and oxidize the delicious nectar of the gods, while with bottles there's a small chance of oxidation due to the seal between cap and bottle.

    2) cans are made of entirely aluminum and therefore no UV light can get to the beer and make it all funky unlike bottles that are just magnifiers of the suns UV light that can skunk the beer. Also cans are lined with a polymer that prevents beer from getting that awful metallic taste.

    3) practicality - cans are easier to store (stack them high in fridge/cooler), you can ice them down a lot quicker than a bottle due to the thin aluminum and maximum surface area of ice to beer, you can take them on boats and not worry about them breaking causing harm, but most importantly you can shotgun them (Flying dog atlantic lager, kelso pils, westbrook anything, ballast point skullpin and or pale ale) - why should only the crappy macro brews have all the fun?

    4) the price is the same to the consumer, cans are not more or less expensive then bottles its all about preference - so grab your koozie and crack a fresh can.

    Cheers!

Somehow the idea of drinking fresh-tasting-fresh-beer from a bottle seems more rewarding than drinking fresh-tasting-old-beer from a can.

I posted a thread a week or so ago, that somewhat relates to this, but it got deleted for some reason. Maybe I can get an answer in this thread. Anyway, I asked if anyone had tried the Corona, Stella, or Heineken in cans, and were they different tasting than in the bottles?

I had always heard that the green and clear bottles allow too much light in, which gives the beer a skunky flavor, something that's common in those three beers in bottles. The one difference, is Corona Familiar, which is regular Corona in a giant brown bottle. It was discussed on a thread last year, people said it tasted better than Corona in the clear bottles, so it must be different, but the general consensus was that it was regular Corona.

IDK what it is, but I(my brain, perhaps?) prefer bottles. Every time I drink a beer from a can, I cant help but think its gotta be better out of a bottle. Maybe its because I prefer glass to metal or anything else when consuming my other favorite psychoactive treat. But thats a whole nutha ballpark.

Glass without a doubt but...last weekend went fishing on the White River...took cans of Schlafly...easier to pack on boat...different situations for different vessels...that said, if we are talking taste and preference...glass into glass...period.

To be fair, you made some great points that got me rethinking my love of bottles, but this is wrong. Why would you shotgun a craft beer, especially a Sculpin?!?

And how do you wax dip a can?!

Cans for beers that have a shorter shelf life.
Bottles for beers that can be aged.

Plastic 2 liter bottles... I've never had a beer that taste different in a can opposed to a bottle. Environmental stance is the only really argument in this question IMO

I like the can movement. Just so much easier to transport and when at home I can put it into a glass. I rarely drink out of a bottle at home anyways. Cans fit better in coolers and are great for outdoor activities.
