Rodenbach is considered a sour? I thought it was a Flanders red?

Sours are great, but they are an aquired taste.

I'd really like to start a petition to re-name these beers "Wild" instead of "Sour". My belief is that people will approach them with more of an open mind.

After all, who likes sour milk?

I figured I'd be in the minority (I actually wish there was a I HATE SOURS choice), I've tried several, but I can't develop a taste for them, and looking at the normal price tag, that makes my wallet very happy

went with "i dislike most" as I haven't found one I liked yet, but i obviously haven't tried them all.

They're just not my thing. We had a tasting this weekend, and it was good to be able to explore a few more and my conclusion was they're still not my thing.

I went with "i dislike most" too. It's not that I can't stand them but I've never had a sour I wanted more than a couple ozs of. I like beers that I want to knock back a few pints of. I'll take a hopped up IPA or a rich stout over a sour any day.

If I had to guess, somewhere between 2009-2011. That's when beers like La Folie and the sours from Russian River started gaining momentum. Cantillon had been here for years, but I don't think anyone was actually buying much of it until that time. IMO, it was at a price point American's weren't prepared for. Plus, it's quite a 180 from Lindemans for most people. However 6-7 years ago plenty of other beers started to head into that price range. I think that's when Cantillon started moving and that concept of aged sours really started to kick in.
Around that same time is when the craft scene started to embrace kettle sours, too. Seemed like every brewery at the 2011 GABF had something they deemed to be a Berliner Weiss.

Sours aren't my style of choice, but I've certainly learned to appreciate them. Of the domestic ones I always enjoy what Russian River is doing, and the Berliner Weiss offerings pumped out by Funky Buddha. Just had Green Flash Cellar 3 Plum Morta this weekend, and found that to my liking. But like many, I'm not dropping major cash on Cantillon and other high end sours because I don't love the style enough to justify the expense.

I like beers with some tartness (Rodenbach Grand Cru, SN Otra Vez, Bell's Oarsman Ale) but I'm not sure I'd like some of the mouth puckering sours that I hear described on the board.

I "like" sour beers a lot. They taste good to me and I really like sour foods in general (candies, lemons, limes, etc). But if I'm craving a "beer" it doesn't really scratch that itch for me.

I like them but the price deters me but if we have one on tap at my job I'll usually have one since I get such a good deal on drafts but I just feel like there's better beer out there that is generally easier to enjoy even though I do love a good sour.

Love sours. First craft brewery I ever went to was Cascade when I was visiting Portland. That was the moment I turned into a craft beer fan.

Learned to appreciate them, which is different from love, for sure. Not enough to buy any big ticket bottles, can only do about 10-12 oz at a sitting, but will never pass up on a sample.

You make it seem like brewing sour beer is somehow a lazy or talentless art.

First ones I tried were Sang Noir and Vlad the Impaler by Cascade. At the time, wasn't impressed, but am starting to appreciate them the more I try. Have since had ones from Wicked Weed, Jester King, Russian River, New Glarus, Creature Comforts, Westbrook, and a few others. Definitely prefer ones with nice tartness and a fruit flavor added.

I have tried a few sours and have liked them but the price point of most sours keeps me from buying them frequently.

Sour is not a style. It's a flavor descriptor than can be ascribed to dozens of styles.
