I don't really enjoy sours. I've been lucky to taste a list of what would be plenty good enough of them throuhg my friends, some are okay, but they've never caught on with me. I do like to buy a frew Berlinerweisse and Gose(particularly Union Old Pro) during the summer, but those are more of an exception.

    My wallet thanks me.

People who enjoy them, congratulations. I'd rather have a smoke beer.

I'm actually surprised only 50% love sours from the voting so far.

I voted "some sours". The super sour bombs are too much, as are the ones that taste like vinegar. I like tart and acidic, but, like hoppy beers, it seems many breweries are going extreme with them.

Yes please. I think I got spoiled right away as the first ones I had were the R R sours. To this day, though, Pulling Nails (3) is probably the best executed sour I've ever had.

that's a spot-on description of my thoughts and experiences with sours.

I like most sours besides sour stouts. I just don't get it.

I guess we are both correct. Under the BJCP style guidelines of " Sour" it lists Berlinner weisse, Flanders red, Oud bruin, Lambic and Gueuze.

Seems to be some contradiction in your statement.

I wish I could comment on the matter but there are absolutely ZERO sours available in my province :slight_frown:

I like every sour I've tried, of all the various styles. It's only been about a year or so since my first one, but I don't expect my predilection for them will lessen. All of my life I've preferred sour over sweet, in anything. Rhubarb pie (barely sweetened) > chocolate cake. Raw key limes >apples. "hot" +"sour" would be ideal. Any chili-infused sours out there, or do I have to add my own?

lol, Jammer was a screw up with no tartness. Gose are generally kettle soured. Sounds like you enjoy salty wheat beers. Throw a dash in a Bell's Oarsman.

No, but we have advanced beyond open fermentation, and lest we not forget, cleanliness is next to Godliness. Contamination is not really that much of an art. Granted, I love Belgian brews, but soured and uncontrolled are not IMHO an art, they are a mishap. Like I said, we are advanced-----I would guess you are not typing this on a Commodore 64 or an Apple IIE.....progress. Appreciation for an old style is one thing, but embracing something like say Vigneronne as anything other than a sour mess I would disagree.....it was one of the worst brews I have ever tried---granted, I would like to try it again and see if my tastes have changed, but it was a teeth chattering sour vinegar mess---again, my opinion.

You must hate all stinky cheeses then? How about cured meats? Allowing wild bacteria and yeast to impart their flavor is a core component in the process of making these delicious foods. Open fermentation beers are no different in that regard, and American Wild Ales are a controlled method of producing similar results.

Have you ever had an infected beer from a bad homebrew? That is a real infection. There is range of terrible tastes you will get, and sour will be the least of your worries.

A beer friend of mine gave me some assorted sours and I drank them but did not enjoy them at all. I like almost every style of brew that I've tried, but sours and smoked beers? No

Love them. It took me awhile to get there. A couple of goses helped, and Monk's Cafe really got me interested. Now I keep something from Jolly Pumpkin, Jester King and Prairie Artisan in the fridge at all times.

I like them, but I don't get a raging hard on for them, like most beer folks I know.

Sours are still a style I am versing myself in, as there are several actual different types/styles of beers that can fall under the sour category. So far it is certainly a style I quite enjoy!
