The program does its job and has kept me loyal. They even opened a location closer to my house, but I go to the one I started at because my name is on the wall and I know all the bartenders.

I consider myself a ticker, but have no problem drinking something I've had before. I really enjoy hunting out and drinking new beers, but I'll buy six packs or order something I've had before if I'm out occasionally. I do get the most enjoyment out of ticking new beers though

To each their own. I don't mind the ticking mantality but when people or "tickers" bring in their own sterilized empty water bottles to fill with beer for a later tick at home...then if I were them I'd be very, very ashamed.

I drink a lot of different beers and go to tastings pretty often but I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore ticker, I just enjoy trying lots of new beers. I have favorite beers that I'll pick up more than once but if I'm drinking by myself then I'm pretty likely to grab something new. I don't do many reviews, mostly because I'm too lazy, and I almost never review from a small sample unless it's an uber wale I'll never see again or it's a vertical. I do most of my "reviews" on Untappd so they're more of a quick impression than a way to track scores. Respect beer!

I try new beers all of the time, but I usually balance it out with beers that I've loved for awhile. I don't understand how people can try a beer and love it, and then never experience it again..

I don't tick. I don't care that other people tick. With that said, tickers are the reason that I give very little weight to the reviews of "Top Reviewers" when I'm weighing whether or not to purchase a new beer. I sometimes do look at reviews --- yes, I have a smartphone and use it at the beer store --- before buying new beers.

I don't tick and don't care if others do. I chase flavors and if I like a beer, I'll definitely buy more of it. I guess I enjoy actually drinking beer too much. Heck, if I could tick like I've seen people do at festivals, I most likely wouldn't be as chubby as I am.

It's an option for the poll. It is entirely necessary for a poll. There are people who think that way and it is a possibility. There are 4 other options that may suit you.

I am the exact same way. I tick just as a way of keeping up with what I have tried. If I have the choice between something I've tried and something new I will go with something new every time.

    Ticking isn't mere recording keeping.

There's a lot more baggage in that label.

I am sure this is wrong but the tickers seem to be young. Of course to me under 50 is young so what do I know. Everyone likes new beers, if its in their comfort zone, but most of us old timers just do not seek out EVERY new beer to win this contest, that you can never win anyway, because I got a head start.:grinning: lol age wins again.......j/k

I *used* to be a big ticker. Trading, buying from online stores, ebay.
Not so much anymore. I've all but given up trading, ebay beers are virtually no more, an occasional online purchase which have been, lately, more disappointing than not. My future ticking will probably be my visiting the newer breweries in Wyoming. Signed....Homer.

I keep track of beers I try in a notebook. I don't write reviews or do any number work or anything. When I go out for a six pack I'd say three-fourths of the time I go for an old favorite. I love to try out new things but usually go for single bottles if I can.

My original response should have been "Only when my Tourette's flares up during drinking sessions..."

Again, not a true ticker, but love tasting new beers when I can.

hmm. if it makes a difference, while i'm constantly trying new beers, one criteria i have for judging them is always: "will i buy this again / would i buy this again if i had the chance?" in fact, that's one of the guiding purposes of trying new beers all the time. when i find one that's amazing (like weyerbacher insanity, founders backwoods bastard, etc) i buy as much of it as i can and drink it regularly.

point being, i get the impression that ticking has something to do with never intending to rebuy beer. but notice, intention may not matter; suppose i'm JohnTicker and i just drink beers to say i've tried them and impress people on the internet. one day, i try a world class beer, love it, and decide to buy more of it because it tastes so good.

clearly in that situation, JohnTicker enjoys beer just as much as JimAficionado or whatever, no? what's the big deal?

I check in most things on untappd, but stopped doing full reviews of EVERY beer. Def check in tastings/bottle shares, but dont write reviews on BA. Untappd is better for every little variance of each beer, where BA would get clogged to high hell if every single local variance was on here.

Untappd does make me feel horrible seeing how many beers I actually have.
