Tickers come in all ages. If you have some free time check out this Beer ticker movie on hulu. Not a lot of young people in it.

I watched that whole documentary a while back. Awesome movie to watch kicked back with a beer in hand. Really interesting too. I need to find more beer documentaries, I have watched probably 5 different ones.

Not to get too off topic, but I'd love to hear what the other beer docs worth seeing are.

I see an "I don't tick and I don't like people who do" option, but I don't see "I do tick and I don't like people who don't."

My first year abroad I made it a point to travel to as many places as I had seen Michael Jackson visit in his Beer Hunter series...and in 10 months or so I managed to make it to around 80 Franconian breweries, Munich and Oktoberfest, Prague and Pilsen, Brussels and Orval, and the Great British Beer Festival in London. So I guess I "ticked" beer meccas in some sense. After that experience, the thought of compiling lists of bottles I had the privilege to try seemed less fun somehow -- though it's a less bizarre activity than, say, compiling things like posts-to-likes ratios.

Since I got into using Untappd, I have become a huge ticker. I used to be more narrow minded with beer and stuck to a few different styles, and when I started ticking like crazy to get certain badges on Untappd, I started trying beers that I wouldn't have otherwise given a thought to.

I don't keep a list, but I have tasting journals and if I am drinking a beer I don't think I'll ever have again, I make sure to review it. That's the extent of my ticking

I used to use untappd because i have a couple friends away from where I live that kept pushing for me to use it so they could see what I was drinking. Then it just became a chore and I didn't want to be on my phone at the bar anyway. nice avatar also!

I am a full-fledged member of the ticking world. Trying new beers is more exciting right now. I don't particularly think about others and whether they tick.

WELP, I tick via Untappd and it bugs my boyfriend... :flushed:

Edit: I don't go out of my way to have a beer I haven't already had, because I would rather have something that I know is good? Though, if it is something I haven't had I'll be sure to make note of it :grinning:

Tickers don't really love beer as much as they love ticking and being on the cutting edge of new, exciting ticks.

I guess that makes the final option in the poll by far the most relevant. Lots of people each have their own definition of what a ticker is. To me, it's a really negative label that mostly means having one sip of a beer at a festival or a tasting and saying you've had it. If you look at it that way, they really don't like beer at all and won't give it the respect it deserves by at least drinking more of it.

Other people that call themselves tickers might just be people that love beer, but go for as many new beers as they can and would much rather go out on a limb and buy something completely new rather than buy a beer they know they like.

And then of course there are the least hardline tickers that simply label themselves as such because they review beers and WILL buy beers they loved in the past.

All in all, it makes this poll very ambiguous, but still interesting. I don't really consider myself to be a part of either of these definitions, which is why I said I don't tick and legitimately don't care if others do. Especially because there are so many different interpretations and I guess most BA's could consider themselves a ticker if you went for the third definition.

I know, I was just pointing out a pretty entertaining beer movie. To be honest lots of people really do think tickers are only people young or new to beer, so I was just showing how untrue that is.

I "review" mostly full beers (12 oz or so) depending on the style/ABV, I enjoy trying new beers and it is a hobby of sorts... but I'm not against having a couple of a beer that I consider good. I guess that could be construed as ticking but that does not bother me.

I don't review, and I find myself trying new "untried beers" even if there is a blockbuster choice right next to it...
