Despite not chasing releases, nor do I care about getting the latest and greatest rare super mega whale. I gave myself a 8 because I do MAKE my own beer. Plus I tend to base most of my life decisions on the availability of good beer. That said, I'm just as happy drinking a solidly made German pilsner as I am the next hyped Barrel Aged beer or Sour blended with snozberries.

I'm just gonna name every beer-centric thing about me and tally up the total: I work at a beer bar, I trade beer, I spend a lot of money on beer, I drink at least one beer a night, I go to beer events/bottle shares, I read (mainly on this site) and write (reviews) about beer daily, and I've brewed a batch of beer solo once and have helped others brew many, many times. So I guess 7.

I voted 8. The thing keeping me from 9 or 10 is that I do not trade and I do not cellar. Otherwise I try ALL THE BEERS and I do not shy away from shite beer, yes thats shite with an "e" because the British curse words are so much better. I love beer and it rules my weekend. Probably at the expense of my family. So yeah 8!!!!!

    PS: Great thread

My fridge and basement say ELEVEN , and I check this site multiple times a day. But I often only drink a couple time a week and I often go a couple weeks without setting foot inside a liquor store. Though I am not counting calls to friends that own stores or online pursuit of Firestone Walker release. I'm thinking Eight-Ocho -VIII, though I stated out leaning toward a 9 before I decided I should leave room for the truely obsessed and the downright sick.

Don't think I have seen this topic before OP, in the daily sea of "What are your top X favorite IPAs", this is a very good thread.

I said 7 simply because anything to do with trades does not apply. But I read about beer compulsively...home brewing, commercial brewing, what hops are what, etc. I don't much watch what I spend, but I don't drink a ton so deducted points for that. BA is my first of several beer related websites I check every morning before work, during breaks, during lunch, or if total boredom sets in. I'm on beer sites until ungodly hours at night. My Facebook page is simply a newsreader for things beer related. I'm subscribed to all manner of beer blogs. I seriously mull over converting all of the stainless steel, controls systems, pumps, valves and so on I have at my fingertips for my job into brewing equipment. But at the end of the day, it's beer and adds enjoyment to life in general.

Not that hardcore...I don't ship beer and I don't want to. Already spend more than I should just with what is on the shelf here. I'll never try it all anyway. Buy good beer you like and sometimes try new things that you think will be worth your while.

I chose 5, based on 1 being someone who doesn't like beer. More like a 2 if 1 means "just had my first craft brew". I enjoy beer enough to have visited a few breweries and be on this site on an interactive basis, trolling the WBAYDN and NBS threads to expand my understanding of the many available beers, but I haven't reached the brewing/chasing/trading stages yet -- still learning the basics of the craft world and working my palette through what Total Wine has on the shelf.

I said 9. A good 10-12 hours of my day is spent on beer. 9 hours of it I am paid for. Then another 1-3 on average of beer advocate, Facebook groups and drinking.

I said 9, but it could be a 10 if you count homebrewing...I brew 99% of the beer my wife and I drink, keep at least 3 beers on tap and a dozen or so funky/sour/wild batches in bottles at all times, brewed 50+ 5 gallon batches in the past year, and brewed about 15 different styles in those 50 batches. I'm more hardcore about producing the best beer I can make than picking through shelves daily, chasing trucks and whales in my spare time and spending as much as my mortgage each month on beer.

I would say around a 7 though I might have to cut back a bit on my drinking. This is the worst time of the year for allergies and I think beer makes it worse. :grimacing:

I say a 7.... merely because I have my own beer fridge filled with walez that my husband isn't allowed to touch.
I don't travel for beer (other than an hours drive to a good craft bar... mainly because I have small kids), and I seldom do trades.... (don't have time!)

but relative to the general public, I'm very educated and discriminating..... I think the fact that I tried probably over 600+ brews should earn me a little street cred, right?

I said 6 because other activities and hobbies take precedence, but my love for beer hasn't waned over the years. I'm probably just trying to justify it to myself by marking it lower.

I don't think how much you drink = how hard core you are. You could chug Bud all day and be a hard core drunk. Good question though, but I find I'm drinking less beer, but what I would consider better beer. I'd rather have a Martini vs a shit old stale IPA, hell I'd rather drink a harmless cheaper Miller Lite. But I'd love to have a HT right about now, or sip on a Bcbs.
