The longer you're into beer the less frequently you tend to be wowed. Just stands to reason. I miss those beginning stages when the wow factor was like a gushing faucet. These days it's more like an occasional drip.

I agree with this as well. Although I'm kinda new to the site, I've been tracking my beer tastings for 2-3 years. But of the 33 beers that I have rated on the site thus far, only 3 fall into the >4.75 rating. That may be due to me searching for "better beers" but I don't put all my beers on here. Its an accurate assumption that it's about 1-in-20+ a WOW

I tend to wowed by almost 1 in 10, because I do my research beforehand and prioritize in buying mostly high-quality beers.

I picked "1 in every 31-49" which seems like a high number but isn't really when you consider the fact I try to review only WOW beers these days.... imagine if I reviewed beers that were considered crap! :astonished:

Edit: For poll consistency I went with your WOW rating of 4.5/5 when my actual personal WOW level sits around 4.4/5.

Oh great. A palette circle jerk. Which by no means was a wow.

There are so many great beers available these days, that very good is now average, and great is not that uncommon. Beers that actually make me say "Whoa, that's special!" are fairly few and far between.

Less often these days. It's not that I'm drinking bad beers as I still tend to rate most of my beers as good. It's just that the more experience I get, my palate becomes, I suppose, more refined. As a result, I'm a little more discerning and critical in terms of what I'll rate as a 4.75 or above.

As @GOBLIN already mentioned, everybody's "wow" is going to vary a bit. @Greywulfken 's is apparently 4.5. I would say mine is closer to 4.25ish. Also, I say wow a lot when I am surprised by a beer (like a good session ale or something New Belgium makes that I really enjoy). Sorry, I digress... 4.5 is more of my personal "holy shit" "boom!" level.

I went with 11-20. Mine is probably around one every dozen or so.

As others have already pointed out its going to depend on your level of the WOW factor and on your buying habits.

If you do your homework and only buy beers with high WOW potential (e.g., glowing reviews by people whose tastes are similar to yours) and you only try beers on tap at bars where the beer manager does their homework and stocks mostly beers with WOW potential. Living in PA where most of the beer I drink is purchased by the case a single mistake can cost $40-80 so I seldom just buy a new beer at random. And I've been able to identify and get regularly to a few of the many bars in this area who have excellent beer managers.

I feel the longer you're around craft beer the more distance between your "wow" beers. I haven't been wow'ed by a beer in over a year. Granted early last year I got my hands on a lot of amazing beer early in the year, I feel when you have a new wow beer to be wow'ed again it has to beat the previous one.

I feel spoiled in the Tampa market, expanded out to include all of SoFLA. There are so many great products coming out that it's hard not to run across beer that is WOW!

I don't do homework. In a trusted bar I will try anything is a style I like. At a retail store a single of just about anything. I enjoy most of them but am wowed by very few. If I had to buy a case I would be a lot more picky.

Voting in this makes me feel like a snob, For a WOW beer it has to be pretty damn good.

My definition: If I'm drinking a brew, and sometime before I finish it, I think to myself..."damn, this is a really good beer."
