I voted 21-40 but there is a grey area for me that threw me off. Some of the marzens and ambers I like are technically in that 11-20 range. Still went dark overall because of stouts, Belgian Dark Ales, Winter Warmers, Dopplebocks .... etc.

Pilsners are my favorite style, followed closely by IPAs and porters. Gotta go with light here.

I went Dark because if I had to choose just one, I can satisfy all my taste preferences in darker beers. You can hop up a red ale (G'Knight), a brown (DFH), or a dark ale (Night Time) but you can't make a good stout or porter without using heavily roasted malts. I have tried those gimmicky light colored stouts and don't like them at all. I can't have a truly creamy roasty beer without it being darker. So, while a lighter colored IPA is my beer of choice I think darker beers give me more versatility from light black lagers to Imperial stouts and everything in between.

Agreed! And for the record, dark beer is what I'd choose.

I chose 1-20 mainly because Stouts and Porters are actually much darker than #40 so those are still available! I guess I just can't drink dark IPAs and Quads? I can deal with that.

I voted "light" because it seems I drink lighter-colored ales more frequently than the darker-colored ales, but of course, I drink every shade of beer out there.

I would miss goses and some other lighter ales, but my vote would be for darker beers.

Prefer the darker colors in my beer. It just looks cooler in the glass. Lol!

I like it all dark, blonde, amber, fruity, smoked, spiced, sweet, hot (pepper), coffee, the list is really long!!!
However, I had a ghost pepper brew once that I couldn't drink. It was just too hot. I certainly tried to like it, but I have that one back and asked for something else.
I enjoy spicy food, but this brew was too much.

Yeah this is supper hard. I often say a solid imperial stout is my favorite but it's usually a one a night or last beer of the night for me. I can drink "lighter" beers easier. As much as I love stouts, I also love pale ales, ipas, saisons, tripels too, so light wins on diversity for me.

Light. After thinking about it I can always find a lighter beer that I enjoy. The warmer months usually turn into an almost exclusive lighter beer drinking season.

IPAs or Stouts? Stouts or IPAs? Today I'm gonna say dark. Tomorrow I'll probably pick light...

    50 please.

    The darker the better.
Seriously though, I usually go for beers around 30-40

Well we've got 200 votes now, and light is winning handily by a 20-point margin. I'm actually surprised; last night when I posted this thread it stayed neck-and-neck for a while.

But I have to wonder, if you broke down all beer styles by "average color," would about 60% of all beers fall into the "light" camp too? Or is it that just a few very popular styles (imperial stouts, barleywines etc.) are darker, whereas a wider variety of popular beers (namely IPAs, Belgians, sours, lagers) are on the lighter side?
