Poll: lurkers vs. posters

Usually post once a day (WBAYDN) and twice on Sunday (NBS). I read other threads but usually have nothing to contribute so I lurk at the threshold.

 

Since I joined in 2007 and have maybe 60 total post I am definitely in the lurker category.

I find most of the time when I'm on the forums the questions asked have already been answered better and more knowledgeably (is that a word?) than I could ever answer them. Even in discussions about "what would you do in X situation" I generally find someone has already given the answer I would give - and since I'm usually on my phone it is a lot easier to just hit the 'like' button than to reply with an answer someone has already given.

I've only had 1-2 posts deleted out of 315. Guess I need to make more of an effort.
Still have no clue why they were expunged. Seemed totally innocuous to me.

As for the poll, I put down 50:50. As mentioned above I've only posted 315 times since November 2008. If you're inclined to do the math it would indicate I'm more of a lurker—I've got the Beer Talk and Mid-Atlantic forums up all day at work, occasional visits to Breweriana and Home Brew. But since most of my posts have been within the last 2-3 years, I think I'm moving steadily enough out of the shadows and into the light to go with 50:50.

 

I never looked at the forums for several years, just used this site to get info on beers. I'm probably 20-80% post/lurk.

 

I read far more than I post, but will post when I have something to add, which is often enough I put "50/50."

 

12 -to- 17 years ago I was a hardcore lurker, boyee! My reign of infrequent* posting began ca. 2003.

*Back when I was at retail, I actively avoided 'pimping' my place of employment.

Always checking (lurking i suppose) when i am looking at new beers..but post more than look/lurk so above 50-50

 

I lurk/post at a 70/30 percent respectively. Most times I have nothing productive to add. The times I do post...I have nothing productive to add then as well.

 

Much more likely to post in my regional forum threads than Beer Talk, but I still consider myself a poster more than a lurker. I prefer to like someone's post if they've already written my opinion than add a redundant post.

 

Like others have said, I post when I think I have something relevant to say that adds to the conversation. I like reading posts, though. So I voted 50:50.

I'm actually much more "vocal" on this forum than I am in person.

I am more of a lurker now than a poster as I am incredibly boring to "read".

 

I lurked for the better part of a decade. I finally joined because I wanted to be able to trade for some of the good stuff.

 

I was a BA for almost 2 years (2010-2012) - drinking and reviewing - before I even visited the forums, but since then I've been a frequent poster. I never really "lurked" on the forums. If I'm here, you'll know it

 

I post. And then I post some more.

 

This comment is not intended to start a shit storm, but I used to post more often but there are now so many recurring threads that I now lurk and close the site quickly if I don't find something different.

 

I'm about 50:50, although most of my posts are in Post Your Haul, WBAYDN, and my regional thread. A lot of threads talk about a lot of beers I either haven't had or can't get, so I don't have a ton to add.

 

50:50, I don't see the point in saying the same thing 50 others have, but will post to be helpful or to ask a question.
