I am a firm believer in newspaper for shipping. As long as nothing moves when you shake the box you are good to go. When I have it I wrap the bottles in cotton padding to mask the sloshing sound. Works better than anything I have seen so far.

Is noise really a problem? I've never had them ask, but you're allowed to ship liquids. Tell them it's olive oil.

In all fairness real olive oil doesn't slosh like beer. I have never had a problem with sloshing, but from some of the stories on here about nosey FedEx or UPS workers I figure why take the chance?

As long as the bottles are packaged well it doesn't matter to me. I prefer to ship my bottles quadruple bubble wrapped with a combination of wadded newspaper and peanuts in a box lined by more bubble wrap. Make'em ready to kick down the stairs because that's about how much fed ex and ups workers care for most packages...

While styro shippers are the easiest, I prefer the eco-friendly pulp shippers.

I re-use all of my packing materials, so I use what I got. I always use rubber bands on bubble wrap, so you can re-use the bubble wrap. Newspaper, paper & plastic grocery bags work well crumpled up. From time to time I take cardboard and make bottle sleeves that work real well.

I get so excited when I get shippers in trades/online orders...they simplify packing so much...as to the type of shipping I'd go styro.

A good cardboard shipper like the one Struise uses. I hate styrofoam because it gives me the worst goosebumps having to break it up for recycling. I also hate seperating everything, because it just gets dust, lint and other general bits everywhere. I prefer a sturdy, heavy-duty, multi-layered cardboard shipper and the bottles wrapped up in bubble wrap, so I can just unpack my bottles and save everything for my own next shipment.

Why would you break it up for recycling instead of just reusing it for your next trade?

Most of the styrofoam shippers I get are made for bombers. We usually get either "big bomber"-shaped 750s or champagne bottles, both too fat to fit in them. I don't re-trade my stuff I got through trades (or else why the hell would I trade for them in the first place), hence why I mostly smash them up for recycling. Still, give me cardboard and some bubble wrap any day, works perfectly well and I hate styrofoam's sound and texture something fierce.

    Yes, I'm weird that way.

Odd, I don't think I've ever run into a bomber sized styro shipper. All the ones I encounter are sized for wine bottles and need additional padding for 22s

I'm sort of appalled how many people on this thread appear to throw out styro (or pulp or gorilla style) shippers they receive. For big bottles (most of my trades) I always send a styro shipper if I have one and a pulp shipper otherwise. I'm in a couple wine clubs so there's always an incoming flow of them. I'd prefer to receive trades in similar packaging, but don't get upset if I don't. However, based on this thread I might start asking people to reassure me they will reuse the styro in a future trade.

Btw, with pulp shippers, I usually fill the voids with newspaper and will bubble wrap 22s to keep everything tight. While wineries do ship them out with bottles rattling around a bit, and I've never had a problem there, I figure there's more risk for me when shipping a trade so I play it safe.

Of the 10 shippers I've gotten, only 1 was made for 750s. All the others were made to snugly fit bombers in a tube shape that's way too thin for a wine bottle.

Is there a 24 bottle styro shipper out there? I'd love to find one. Need to send a case to the
    Netherlands.
