This poll/thread is probably more for people who have rated/reviewed a pretty large number of beers, but I was curious about this. When I look at my 50 top rated beers (sorting my ratings list by highest rating down), I noticed that I've got a whole bunch of "green plus" beers—meaning that I apparently liked these beers more than the average BA. In fact, if I count the number of +rDev beers on this first page, I find that 45 out of 50 are positive rDevs and 4 more are neutral (0)—meaning that out of my 50 top rated beers, only 1 has a negative rDev (Westvleteren 12).

This got me wondering. Is this an anomaly? Or is it pretty typical? There's only one way to find out. Please take a moment and count the positive rDevs in your 50 top rated beers, multiple that number by 2, put a % sign after it, and then click on one of the responses in the poll below.

    WARNING: Some math required. Cheers!

All but 6 - only 2 of which are -rDev. The remaining 4 are at 0% due to a lack of ratings.

No negative. A smattering of neutrals.

I should have noted- I had 25% @0 rDev. And I typically am a little tougher in ratings.

92% I guess I'm too generous and have no business rating beers

6 of 50 are either minus or 0.0%

(7 of 50 if you count my one +0.2% rDev)

I do believe these can change on a relatively frequent basis (if your top 50 are popular ones that is)

I've only reviewed 51 beers so far... so my top 50 beers are currently "everything I've reviewed except Foster's Ale."

Out of that bunch: 34 positive, 8 negative, and 8 zero rDevs. Maybe one of those 8 zeroes was an actual zero, the rest being "there aren't enough reviews of this one yet" local (and otherwise not-widely-reviewed) beers.

So... that looks like 68% positive rDev percentages. Was actually expecting that number to be a bit higher, it's probably those "zero due to not enough reviews" zeroes making it a bit lower.

2,559 reviews. Of the top 50, 47 +rDev, 1 neutral and 2 -rDev. It makes sense when you think about it, especially with a large sample size -- the beers you've rated highly have been more highly rated by you.

Shit, now I know what STAT 201 was missing fifteen years ago -- drinking beer!

I only rate beers I like, so nearly 100%.That said, I think it's pretty obvious that I'm in the vast majority here, all you need to do is look at the amount of reviews for Pliny the Elder (3000 plus) and compare to Bud Light (1500 or there about) considering PtEs limited distro. Well either I'm right or there are a ton of BA's that never tried Bud Light. (very unlikely)
So I'd predict that the 90-100 percent positive poll will be the winner.

hovering in the mid 80's drop to mid 70's on top 100. I amuse myself. The beers that I find I get a six'r of to bring home are beers that I have notoriously rated lower than others. Sucks one of my favorite I have an rdev of like -5.5 but it is always in my fridge.

35 (70%) of mine are positive rDevs. There are 2 (4%) neutrals. That leaves 13 (26%) negative rDev. I have not uploaded all my reviews, so my actual top 50 is far different than what is listed on mine. Still, I'm sort of proud that I seem to be more towards the negative end of the spectrum than most. I thought I overrated things, but apparently I'm somewhat reasonable.

Not at all, in fact it just shows that you have 50 beers that to you are better than most raters think. And that my friend, is winning!

13 positive, 10 negative, out of a total of 52 ratings so far.

    So 25% positive.

88% positve rDev. Interesting to me was that the negative deviation was quite small but some of my positive rDevs were quite large.

Boy, that changed things quite a bit. Maybe it all goes to show that, for me at least, that I like what I like a lot and I don't like what I don't like a lot:slight_smile:
