Have to be able to taste the "specialness" or hype right?

I chose "special occasion" however that could include having a friend or family member over who shows any interest in the beer what-so-ever

I drink most of my beers at any time. However, I do have a special "turkey grilling beer" that I save. On the day after Thanksgiving, after all of the insanity of hosting Thanksgiving dinner has passed, I grill a small turkey that's just for my wife and I. While grilling, I drink a 2-liter Altenmünster Winterbier Dopplebock, http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/890/39706/. Perfect for a chilly/cold late November day. About the time that the bottle is finished, the turkey is done. As well as me,

I have a couple rare to MD bottles I keep around explicitly to celebrate with, but usually I'll drink whatever I have in no certain order.

I always have at least 12 beers hidden away for special occasions...... a beer for Santa with his cookies, Christmas morning, Thanksgiving, birthdays etc...

I generally save my special bottles for special occasions. That said, special occasion may be something as light as starting a vacation, good company coming over, or my favorite team playing on local tv.

I have a very, very bad habit of doing this, and now I'm a little overwhelmed. Thinking of organizing a tasting event to try to get through so much of it with some close friends

Not always sure what I'm saving for, sometimes it just comes out after I feel I've waited 'long enough'. Regardless, I have very little access to 'special' cellarables, so I typically give it some time.

I once saved a beer for a special occasion...

That occasion didn't come, then it was too old, then I was stuck with a 6 year old imperial pilsner that would have been better used as syrup.

If you count getting my hands on the "special beer" as a special occasion, then I drink all my special beers on special occasion.

If not, its all about timing. If I get some world class IPA in May I am not going to save it for the 4th of July (as an example).

Saving my 'special' ones until I decide if I want to save them or not. No, seriously. It's sad.

I have enough special beers on hand that I can drink what I want, when I want it.

I chose save for special occasion but sometimes the special occasion is the start of the weekend :sunglasses:

I did start cellaring beer but I don't want to go crazy until i've tried the same lot over a series of bi-yearly trials. If my conditions seem favorable I will probably be saving a hell of a lot more.

I usually bring a bomber over to my Dad's for football but last year I saved a Velvet Merkin for Thanksgiving and a Mephistopheles' Stout for Christmas.

I've got a bunch of "special occasion" beers that I tend to bust out on holidays, birthdays, etc. (eg: BCProp on Christmas, Dark Lords with friends).

The challenge is I love to share those beers with my wife, but she's not big in to most of them (mainly stouts). So they end up accumulating and then all being busted out at bottle shares with close friends or they become beers I drink because I create special occasions in my head to justify drinking them.

Like tomorrow...might crack open my first Huna just because I've got a night to myself...something I feel like I've not had in ages.

For me, it's more of a chicken and egg thing......

The special beer creates the special occasion.

I have beers that I've earmarked for certain occasions. I tend to also have lots of other special beers that I prefer to share with friends or you know, when I just want to feel special
