If nothing else was affected, what would you choose as the ideal ABV for your beer?

EXACTLY! And most good quality high ABV brews have tons of flavor.

I'm one of only 3 apparently that like em 19% or higher. Figure if I gotta pay good money for good beer, it might as well knock me down so I don't wind up drinking all of them in one sitting. Clearly, I have no self control.

I voted 4-6%. I had 3 Hop Ranches the other night in about 2 hours and had the early stages of a good buzz...one more would have put me in the danger zone. I like a little more sessionability.

    4 - 6% I prefer steins to snifters.

4 - 6 cos I don't mind spending several hours per session drinking and that fifth beer where you are playing exclusively in the +7.5% abv field is generally never a good idea cos it leads to other things and your not remembering them as people tell you how they did.

I like the way it is now. I like the diversity in ABV of beers. I would hate it if BCBS had 5% alcohol and within the time it took me to drink one I ended up having more alcohol leave my system than enter. I would also not like to get drunk off a couple Honker's ales.

7-9 all the way, though realistically 6-12 is the range all my favorites are in

A better method would be to use # of beers consumed based on 12oz servings while totaling up the abv of each beer to get a number that you are comfortable with.
A random example for any given night might be-
    2 @ 9% =18
    2 @ 5.5% =11
Your abv # on this night would be 29.

    4 Sucks @ 8% and your # is a happy 32.

I prefer lower ABV. I get a better buzz. I like high ABV sippers at certain times, but only then.

8-12 wasn't an option but it is my choice. Not solely based on buzz catching but the majority of the most enjoyable brews I have had fall into this range. I'm also perfectly content with a 7.5% Lagunitas sucks or a 5% Cantillon Gueze or a 15% BCBS. Or a 6% local IPA. Or whatever tastes good.

But I find my trips to beer bars usually end up being 3 or so brews in the 8-10 range. My home purchases and trips to less beer centric establishments will vary wildly

Try to keep my beers in that 4% category.
    Firestone Pale 31
    Stillwater Classique
Elysian Split Shot > is what I have been drinking lately.
(Also a lot of Evil Twin Bikini Beer, I'll admit I go through about a case a weekend at 2.7%)

gotta go with the 4-6 range. sessionable, usually cheaper, and with less calories.

0% for me. I love beer for the taste and would love to choose any beer without taking ABV into consideration. Also you could then drink it anywhere, enjoy it while driving, etc.

I wouldn't change a thing. I love that I can have low ABV beers when I want them, or a DIPA or Imperial Stout when I just want one. Somehow a 4-5% DIPA just doesn't seem right to me.

I went with 7-9. However if it were broken down slightly different offering a 6-7 range, I'd be there for sure. 4 is just too low for anything that doesn't involve tailgating, or mass consumption in general. But 9 is quite high for a weekday night. I attempt to drink 'healthy' by going with the 'beer a day' rule, except weekends all bets are off.

All this being said, it would be a shame to downgrade many beers down into this ABV range. Can you imagine drinking a 7% BCBS?
