visitin my parents for thanksgiving and would like to find something tasty while I'm here. Anyone have a suggestion? Want to buy something to bring home. Thx!
I had to google that just to find out what state that was in. Based on the location/size, your best bet likely is to drive to a city.
Outside of OKC, Tulsa or Lawton you are generally SOL. If you haven't started back home you might get lucky and find some Coop, Anthem, Marshall or even Prairie at a rural store, but I wouldn't count on it, and I would be conscientious about freshness issues. Macadoodles in Joplin (I'm assuming you're driving I44) might also have some Ok. beers besides Prairie, but I'm not for sure. Actually, that's probably your best bet.
Yeah, if you're going to Ponca City you're S.O.L. Really your only option is to stop in Tulsa and hit a couple of the liquor stores there if you're wanting the biggest variety of Oklahoma-only beers.
Thank you for the replies. Still can't believe the lack of selection here, but maybe I didn't know where to look. I grew up here, but my returns have been infrequent. With the full family in tow, and with flights, I didn't have the option of stopping in Tulsa. Next time, I'll plan on that. Thanks again.
Small town Oklahoma isn't really on the craft beer bandwagon. Most towns are barely on the beer wagon at all, sadly.
Heading up to Tulsa in a couple of weeks to hang out until my daughter is done teaching for the year. Couple of good bottle shops there, so I have been looking forward to this. When we moved her in back in July I only had like 20 minutes to spend and there was just so much I hadn't seen. Giving myself 2 days this time
Well, that depends on one's perspective. It's small town USA which is great for some reasons, but not for others. The store's here in Ponca City are bringing in better beer gradually. Myself and others have helped store owners along. If you want truly shitty towns, head north to Newkirk or east to Fairfax! LOL!
Sorry, man. I have not spent much time on BA lately and have not looked in the Southwest forum for quite some time. Had I caught wind of your message, I would have responded. It's hit and miss here in Ponca where I grew up as well and came back to work and raise a family. I would have sent you to Brown's in Stillwater where you could have picked up something. They had Prairie Okie, Christmas Bomb, Rugby and several others that week. I could have sent you home with a nice little care package from my own cellar too! Maybe next time.
Thanks for the note! I'll be coming back sometime next year. I'll try to give some warning. Again, appreciate you getting back. When did you graduate? I was class of 87.
