Congrats on their Bronze medal from GABF in the hazy IPA category!(https://m.sfgate.com/beer/article/Barebottle-Pond-Farm-Brewing-among-big-local-14498494.php) Maybe it’s because they’ve practically just opened, but this is the first time I’ve heard of them. Judging from the limited info on BA it seems I’m not the only one. Any eyewitness reports? What’s the word, good people? Like many of you I’m sure they’re on my radar now!
Nice you brought this up, never heard of them. I actually go to Sol food ( Puerto Rican food) quite often which is down the street. The wife doesn't drink much but she really likes the food, win win for me.
I've been a few times as they are in my area and I really hate to be a naysayer (or sound like a dick), but let's just say I was really surprised they won in that category. It actually makes me question GABF as a whole.
There's always one random brewery that wins a GABF IPA medal that probably shouldn't... Devil's Gulch is fine but hardly worth chasing down. It tasted like a standard Hazy IPA that your local brewery makes. Really lacked the tropical aromas of the competition, and taste wasn't anything special. I wouldn't drink it over anything from say HPB/Alvarado/MT/Monkish. Again, fine for the beer you get at the local spot, but nothing special. The other stuff I've had from them is also fine. Nothing bad, but also nothing that stands out compared to any other small brewery making the same stuff.
Well when the owners were surprised when they won this, that's all I guess one needs to know what they thought of it. But honestly I'm going to visit here as it's close by to my food spot, something to do then just going there to eat, especially coming from the City.
I will say they seem like very nice people. It was started by a husband and wife and the few times I've been to PF they are both there working hard side by side with the staff, as well as greeting customers which speaks volumes, at least to me. Hence why I hate to talk "badly" (for lack of a better word) about the beer, but in all honesty FrogOut's post nailed it.
