I picked up a Jubel 2010 bottle on a whim at New Seasons five years ago. I knew nothing about it, just knew that I liked Jubelale and I liked Deschutes' other big bottles, so figured what the hell. For some reason or another I didn't open it for four years, but when I did I was blown away at the smooth, silky mouthfeel and the complexity of flavors. I was said I would have to wait another six years for Jubel to make it's return.

Then Deschutes announced they couldn't wait and were going to do a 2015 version, so I got excited. Today was release day, so I went down to the pub in Portland to pick up a couple bottles. Having gone to previous day of releases there before - for Abyss, Dissident and Black Butte XXn - I figured I'd be standing in line (and in the case of Abyss, a really long line).

No line. None. Oh well, more for me. Was in and out in two minutes.

It doesn't even matter now. No lines, man.

I had a Jubel 2010 in 2012. It wasn't amazing, but pretty good.

Seen plenty of the Deschutes "big bottle stuff" in Salem even.
I think us Oregonians do not do lines.
    Too hipsterish

Probably because it's always more expensive at the pub than at bottle shops. People have figured that one out.

Portlanders do lines every Sunday for brunch. And Abyss releases.

Geesh. I just bought bottles, not a glass. I'll tell you 1/24/16.

They had free tasters when I stopped in. its good. Lots more leather than I remember. $17 seems steep though.

Hey, since we're talking about Deschutes, and since the NW forum loves a good tangent, has anyone opened a bottle of The Specialist yet?

Haven't cracked a bottle, but I had a couple glasses at the Bend pub on the night it was released. To be honest, they were the last stop on a day full of drinking and I can't recall much about the beer, but I know it was good enough that I bought 3 bottles.

Was is supposed to be sour? The blurb on the menu mentioned it being an imperialized version of Bachelor Bitter, so I just chalked up the slight tartness to the wine barrel component.

Bought a Specialist bottle as well. It's not a sour.

Yeah, I guess I thought it was sour... I guess I was wrong. It was an impulse buy. I didn't know much about it

Based on the few descriptions I've seen, I wasn't expecting a sour, but I also wasn't sure if I should expect something closer to Firestone's Double DBA.

Anyway, I did buy a bottle, and curiosity is getting the better of me, so into the fridge it goes.

Anyone have the scoop on The Specialist? Distribution? $? Bottle Counts?
I'm certain I will see Jubel 2015 in WA but curious about Specialist....

Says on their facebook it's only available at their pubs. Jubel will be shipped out next week.
