In my years of drinking craft beer, this has only happened twice and both times were within a few months. The first time was with Bell's Hopslam. Got a sixer of this years release. Drank the first 5 with no problems then when I cracked the 6th and final one there was no distinct satisfying "pop" from the release of carbonation we are all so accustomed to. Poured the beer into my glass of choice and it was clear there was very little to no carbonation in this beer. Closer inspection of the bottle showed imperfections in the capping. There was a good amount of residue build up under the lip. Needless to say, the beer was undrinkable, a direct drain pour. Of the hundreds of different bottled beers I have had this was the only time this had ever happened so I didn't think much of it and just kind of let it go. Then last night I cracked open my 3rd or 4th Victory Hop Devil and the same thing occurred. No carbonation "pop", residue build up under the lip, instant drain pour. Has anyone else come across this? Is this a regular occurrence? Is this poor quality control or is it just the nature of the beast and something that sometimes just happens and we have to deal with?
I've had it happen a handful of times in my drinking life. I just accept it and move on. Only time I would bother to bring it up was if I got an expensive bomber of something - perhaps i would mention it to the brewery or store. I've only had it happen to 1 beer out of a six or four pack, so I normally just pour one out for my homies and go on about living life.
I had an extra show up at a trading partner's place with no cap, contents spilled into box. Not sure how that happened, but yes I suspect it was a poorly capped bottle.
