Poperings Hommel (Van Eecke) - Date Code Help

    Can anyone interpret this? At the bottom of the front label is

    | A | B | C | D | E | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 | 11 | 12 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 14 |

    with bolded letter/numbers indicating a notch on the label.

    Another bottle has

    | A | B | C | D | E | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 | 11 | 12 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 14 |

    (no letter notched). Anyone know the code (or see the pattern)?

    sometimes these things are a pain.

    Your guess makes sense, but I think els might be the right one.

    like a-e would be weeks 1-5 of the month, 1-12 would be the month, and 11-14 would be the year.

    Mostly because it resets after 12 and goes 11-14. Missing a week on the second one could be a bottling error?

    PITA definitely.

    Funny, I didn't notice the 10 | 11 | 12 | 11 | 12 segment even after having typed it up. Yeah, it doesn't seem consistent with my guess then, then.

    I like the week/month/year scheme, but actually I have multiple bottles with the second code, so it might be a very consistent labelling error or it might not be an error.

    It's likely that on the Best By Feb 2014 batch that the week just didn't get notched correctly...happens from time to time. Luckily it is the least important part of the date.

    Now the question is - if its a best by date, how far out are they dating them? A year?

    One of my favorite beglian made beers - funny how the price of the small bottles are nearly the same as they were 10 years ago - aorund $4.
