Bear with my ignorance on the subject, but I'm renting a lake house with some buddies this summer and wanted to purchase a keg or two for the week. Considering many nitro beers are so drinkable(like Red Chair, good god!) I thought it would be awesome to see if I could get a set up for nitro at this lake house.

So is it possible to maybe rent something?

On that note, I'll be purchasing a keg intended for nitro if it works out.

    this is your first kegerator?
yes, beer from a nitro faucet can be served quite nicely with a home bar setup. i do think though that you are asking for headaches. for one, this will require significant changes to the kegerator. youll need to use special gas mix an a special faucet. youll need to be able to balance the system. and youll be limited to kegs that work well with a nitro faucet. all of this is possible. then again, your friends would much rather have nice pours of their favorite beer over a mess of a Stout pour.

i dont know where you can rent a kegerator, much less one set for mixed gas. good luck. kegerators aint cheap, and this board is full of stories of guys who thought they got a good deal only to find they need $100 of parts and two weeks of hand holding. no big deal, but a headache.

or you need a two keg system, one of each. which is not impossible but ambitious.

so, you really want to do this? can be done. its a comittment and it will cost you, but good beer is worth it.

If you haven't played with Nitro I wouldn't suggest it. I dont know we're you would ever get a kegerator for it and they are finicky and expensive. A 10lb tank of beer gas is 4x the price of C02, the faucets are expensive, and the require a lot more maintenance.

Also- since when is Deschutes Red Chair on Nitro?

Yeah, this would have been a very temporary setup for the house we rent for a week. I'm going to just call it good and go another route, thanks guys!

My local alehouse just put on Red Chair...smoooooth. I've had Old Raspy, G'Knight, Obsidian Stout, and Red Chair on nitro and I liked all of them. Yes, I realize it's mutes some flavor but the mouth feel makes it fun to drink.

Just get a party pump and a bucket of ice if you want a keg that badly. It won't go bad in a week.

Nitro is real easy. Get a Sams club or best buy kegerator. Buy a nitro faucet, nitro regulator, and a keg coupler from Micromatic (the coupler that comes with it is too cheap to use). Roll the tank on the floor a couple times. Hook it up. Run at 30-40 psi.
