Good friend of mine who took a job at another if our facilities is visiting in a couple weeks. I know he likes porters, so Mayflower seems a good bet for sitting around the fire with the work bitchfest in full swing. But when we get to plotting to take over the world, I'd like to pour something special from the porter/stout family. Keep in mind that I am in Massachusetts... Oh - and John is a coffee addict. And yes...I have room for him to stay if need be. Ideas welcome, or I wouldn't be askin' :-))

Looking thorough your distribution in Mass, I'd say Alesmith Speedway Stout and Ballast Point Victory at Sea would be two awesome choices. Both use coffee and both are f'n amazing.

Sixpoint's 3Beans can still be found in Massachusetts. It's a Baltic porter and one of the best coffee beers IMO. This would satisfy both you and your friend's interests.

I just had Founders Porter for the first time last night. That was very enjoyable

Keeping with the MA theme, try Pretty Things Babayaga.

As others have mentioned Ballast Point Victory at Sea is a great choice.

You should also try Wormtown's Pro-am Porter and Berkshire Brewing's Coffee Porter (both Mass breweries). Both are very coffee forward and delicious. I recently tried White Birch's Humble Porter and was impressed. They're out of NH but should be available in Mass. Maine Beer Co. makes a porter called King Titus that is good as well.

You might want to work Peche Mortel in there as a nightcapper if you can get it- very nice coffee quality in that one.

Try to find Clown Shoes Very Angry Beast, it's outstanding. It's expensive though, $14 a bomber at Yankee Spirits in Sturbridge.

Wolavers Alta Gracia Coffee Porter. Robust, aromatic and sessionable.

Bear Republic Black Bear Stout. Stone cold classic that few people seem to acknowledge in this barrel age your pants and mother age.

Victory at Sea would be my first choice, and Speedway Stout is a good suggestion too.

I haven't seen any hit MA in a few months, but if a bottle of Imperial Biscotti Break showed up in stores I'd definitely grab that.

For a heavy does of coffee, Troegs Javahead. Otherwise, Smuttynose Robust Porter or Baltic Porter, Founders Porter and Victory Storm King are all good choices.
