Porter vs. Stout

    Sweeping generalization here

    Porters are less body and sweeter

    Stout is more body less sweet and higher abv


    This is not scientific but what pops I to my head when I hear this question

    To answer OP I feel that stouts are much thicker..and porters are usually more on the thinner side.IMO

    I can only assume that you've totally fabricated those two brews in order to destroy my sense of order that's based on my limited viewpoint that was derived from many of the responses in this thread.

    Porter taste like porter and stout taste like stout. What's the problem here ?

    First, neither stout or porter are really styles, they’re categories. You need to compare styles, not really categories.

    The styles are:
    Porters: Brown, Robust, and Baltic
    Stouts: Dry, Sweet, Oatmeal, Foreign Extra, American, and Russian

    For your answer on the difference between the styles within the stout and porter categories, this is likely your best source:

    do they have any good stouts that arent really expensive though? seems like porters are cheaper or at least the ones ive looked at but it seems like id enjoy stouts more from reading on here
