I'll be staying in downtown Portland (The Vintage Portland) next week for work. Any advice on places within walking distance for good food and drink at happy hour prices? If you have a good cocktail happy hour rec that would be appreciated too. If something is great and within a ride on a streetcar I'm game for that too although I prefer walking. Thanks
I like the happy hour at Higgins, plus they always have killer beer on tap. Much more casual and low-key, Killer Burger downtown has a "killer hour" from 2-5 I think. Great burgers, plus they ususally have 12+ good beers on tap. But if you really like beer, finding a lot of places that have a great taplist and also do happy hour is probably a little troublesome. many brewpubs dont have the best (or any) Happy Hours (like Hair of the Dog, Deschutes, etc.) Most of the best taplists are at beer bars and they rarely serve food. Although Baileys has Seranita next door which is damn good mexican food. Good news is that prices in Portland are reasonable pretty much anywhere so dont worry too much about "happy hour" prices.
Splash Bar/Splash Brewery has $1 house beers and a "fabulous happy hour" according to their website. No idea if the beer or food is any good, but you could take one for the team and report back to us. On a serious note, if you don't mind a 15-20 minute walk or short bus ride I would highly recommend Clarklewis. They only have 4-5 taps because they're more wine and cocktail focused, but last time we were there they had pFriem Blonde IPA, Georgetown Pils, and a couple other solid local options. The happy hour menu has a bunch of small plates and things to nibble on from $1-7 each
Ha. I didn't even realize that you could walk over the bridge. They are not drawbridges right? Those freak me out. Probably won't take one for the team but maybe I'll throw a dollar at them. It can't be that bad, and someone needs to do it! I'm definitely going to visit some other places for non happy hours. But it does help to get some cheap food that's good right after work and before dinner. Plus why not eat twice if you can. Clarklewis looks like a good place since I'll be with a cocktail only coworker one night. I'll probably hit up Commons brewery as I've been to Cascade but I'll probably try to do this when I land.
Sassy's is a strip club (has great beer selection) is located next to Cascade Brewing & Green Dragon. Fat Heads, Bridgeport both are in the Pearl and have HH. Jake's Crawfish has good hh for food only! Also many places on 21st & 23rd in NW part of town will be just fine. Cheers!
Am I the only one (surely not) wondering if this question was actually serious? After all, the website has an address...
I've heard about this place... 25+ Craft Taps, 11am to 7pm Happy Hour, Distribution reports show they purchase Pallet Jack IPA. They sponsored brewers gift bags for Boneyard's Beergasm Event during CBC. My wife didn't give it rave reviews, but she typically isn't looking for happy hour specials.
